Default My opinion on the Escort Passport SRX

Well I got a good deal on a SRX from E-bay (still not cheap by any means) and got some time for the install.

First off this is a very labor intensive unit to install, it took me 3 hrs and I do mobile electronics for a living. That said it is a very high quality peice with more option and features than most people will ever use. The hardest part by far was finding a good place to install the 2 front laser sensors/shifters, I ended up mounting them inside my ram-air duct. This looks pretty good, but I am not sure if the mesh grill will interfer with operation. I put the main radar detection module behind the front license plate cover, this required a little dremel work. The rear laser sensor/shifter was easily mounted to the license plate. Untill I can find a better place I just stuck the head unit below the heater controls where the 2 panel come together, actually fit very nicely. I also got the external speaker which I put under the dash, behind the heater controls facing down. Finally I put the hdeen display led on the dash bezel that goes around the speedo cluster, centered in the middle so it shines down on the clear plastic.

I have only had it in for a day, but it does not false as much as my old unit did. The external speaker is very loud, even with my stereo turned up I can still hear it which is nice. I will post back will further comments on performance after I have it going for a couple weeks.

Also for any other out there that have this or a similar unit, what did you do with the front laser sensors?

Are you sure its a SRX? The SRX is currently only avaliable at car dealers to be installed on new cars it CANNOT be sold at retail locations at this current time. Are you sure its not a SR7?

Yes it is an SRX with every option including the remote display and external speaker. I bought it from the seller early before the auction ended. Actually I think E-bay shut the auction down, as Escort was very upset about these being sold on E-bay.

I guess I got lucky to get one before E-bay stopped them from selling them.

Both the SR7 and SRX are supposed to be sold only through dealers because they "require" professional installation. However, there are a number of places on the web that will sell them over-the-counter and you can still get them on eBay (there's an SRX on there today for as low as $650). The SRX seems to be an SR7 with the ZR3 laser shifter and a voice module. Otherwise, the electronics are the same. I have been very happy with the SR7 I installed in my wife's Envoy.

Yes the SRX is just a SR7 with the laser shifters included. The SRX however does not come with the remote display and external speaker. Some of the auctions on Ebay include them, but most charge extra.

what is this SRX? is it just a radar detector with sensors you can put in your bumper or something? pics?

anyone know if Valentine makes some kinda sensors to put around your car so you don't have to have your radar hanging from the windshield

It is the top of the line unit from Escort. It has remote sensor for both front and rear, that does both radar/laser detection as well as shifting the laser signal. It has a small break away display that can be hidden in the dash area somewhere.

I am very happy wiht it's performance so far.
