Depends on a lot of other things like how fast the car runs and how tall the tires are. There are a ton of MPH RPM calculators on the web.

And a hundred more are out there. One thing more you need to know is how much your converter slips. Rule of thumb is around 10%, but they vary.

Here is a better calculator. Figure in about 7% converter slip for unlocked.

Alright so i used the calculators and i had to estimate the mph because i haven't ran the car yet. I estimated around 115 or 120 for mph and with my tire height i'm getting around 6500-6600 rpm. Is that too high for the quarter? should i think about replacing the gear with a 3.73?

What RPM do you plan on shifting the car?

Really you could run either gear and not notice much performance difference. Depends on how hard core you are. If you want every last hundredth of quarter mile performance then go 4.10. If you do any amount of highway driving, you might choose the 3.73.

I have a 98 Pretty stock LS1/A4 with 100 shot, 4:10s and 26 DR Stock stall last year. Car went 12.4 at about 112 would hit 4th gear right at 1/4 mile mark. Car is also a DD car cruises 26ish at 70. Put a 3400 stall in it this winter. Love the 4:10s in mine. 3:73s would not be bad either I bet.

Why not lock the converter up once you pull high gear? Then it will be the same as you are currently running through the traps at.
