gearing for th700r4 + s/c SBC
I have a 1974 chevy stepside with 4.10 gears in the 12 bolt. And with the first gear being 3.06 in the th700. Traction is a big issue even with traction bars and the sticky M/Ts. I figure i should be aroud 600 hp with the supercharged 355. Looking for advice on the regearing. Thanks!

What are doing with this thing? If its a drag truck I would go lower with that tire and weight. Are you trying to trap in OD or 3rd? I would def run it first and go from there.

It is a weekend street truck. The 4.10s are fun but i cant hammer it off the line. As far as trapping...i havent drove the 70+ plus miles to see.

That's a big tire to be having serious traction issues with a 350. Which M/T tire is it? Its not a sportsman is it? I usually just tune my gears to what RPM I want it to trap at and work the traction out in the suspension. If that's a slick it should hook at the track.

Leaf springs like a lot of pinion angle and the bars need to be adjusted right. It tough sometime to hook on the street, but the track should be a different story if you get it right.

Well i actually took it too a shop. They told me i actually shimmed it too much and have slightly too much angle. They guy said i should gear it higher with the power and the factor of it being a truck..

There are tons of S-10's around here that run high 5's in the 1/8 and they are leaf spring trucks. Pinion angle on a leaf spring car isn't the same as a coil car. Did they actually measure your angle or just look at it? Make sure your front spring bushings are good and you have a decent shock too. Taking gear out of a car is just a band-aid most of the time.
