....give or take, that I have driven my Corvette. Today, I did. I put it through some good driveability tests. Stop and go traffic, highways,...etc. Car stayed mostly at 190-196 degrees,....not a cent more, stock radiator. Mostly at the lower portion of that(190). It was nice out, so windows stayed down. The fuel pump is super loud but you get kinda used to it....even with the windows up, not so bad. Didn't even try radio, which woulda drowned out the sound probably. Over all, I am happy. It has a base tune in the car, based off an old tune, from my old setup but, with some tweaks to run larger injectors, e85, etc. Big thanks to Johan and MikeL at Diablosport for they're time and effort in the vehicle. It's greatly appreciated. Especially since we're trying to get the car ready for a drag event and a road course event NEXT weekend. lol, nothing like a shotgun break in.

Oh, and speaking of E85, it felt BAD AS HELL to be able to actually pull up to the fuel station and put fuel into the car, and not a 5 gallon gas tank.

All in all, i'm super excited,...I rented a garage to keep the car down here, so it looks like I am gonna have to start driving it,....alot. Gonna need to buy an HD gopro now.

Can't wait to upload some vids in the next coming weeks. Thank you to all that have helped me get it together...burning the midnight oil.

Lookout world.

Drove it last night, doing more data logging and trying out new tunes(thank you diablosport) which is working great. I noted that at night ....cruising, I'm at 181degrees on my stock radiator...and 187 at idle-dead stops. Very stoked about that. Gonna go wash the space dust off now I think from being on the moon the last two years.

Awesome.

It was great to see that thing pulling into my driveway under its own power, and it smelled good too :)

Shouldn't take too much to get it dialed in from here, see if you can figure out whats up with the speedo and MAF.

Ordered a stainless fuel filter cartridge today from racepartsolutions, should be here tomorrow, when i'm installing that, I will look for unplugged speedo input.

FYI...the solid control arm bushings with coilovers and 295 fronts,...335 rears.....HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The car handles better and more responsive then anything I have driven other then a shifter car. WOW. And I haven't even installed the uppers yet. Highly recommend them so far. No creaks, or weirdness but, I will tell you I need to get an alignment....cause my car is sitting all cambered out looking like some sort of roadrace GT car. If only it had a chin spoiler....

Anywho...The car is fucking sick. Getting the stamp of approval. .....kinks being worked out...the laundry list goes..

1)change fuel filters, replace one paper with stainless....thank you raceparts(hopefully I can change that after work tomorrow)

2)Speedo isn't working...gay...probably unplugged on trans/diff area...i'll hope it's that and I can tackle that tomorrow as well.

3)I have a MAF code...P0102....low frequency...never had that code till the new setup...it's not the maf, cause I have a few and swapped it and came back right away....even inhibited the car from starting once while "current". So, I need to diagnose that code,...which leads to #4...

4)The car breaks up....pretty narley...especially on throttle input...as in a leap from say 25% to 45% or more....it breaks up....air fuel is all over the fucking place....then you can feather it into boost,...then presto holyshitto it's accelerating pretty bad but I can't really go full throttle cause my stupid ass left my drag radials two hours north..so yeah,...fat chance in seeing what it's like in boost. Fuel pressure looks good, fuel pressure regulator seems to work... I have seen 75kpa...which is like 9-10psi I think according to data. Hoping my fuel filter clean and replacement(getting rid of one paper+1 stainless, I am going with two stainless filters).

5)Nexus boost gauge out. Gay. need to bust out power probe on it and see whats up.

6)upper A arms, all four, I need to change out factory rubber control arm bushings and replace with graphite ones,..or graphite appearing ones. Whatever. They're a nice add on. Then align.

7)I need a set of road race tires on all four corners...but,...I can't find RA1's anymore...I need 335's in read at least...who makes em? I'll have t buy two at a time.

8)something is up with the linkage,..little bastard is difficult to get into reverse every once in a while.....the car was always flawless with shifting prior to this build..so It has to be linkage. Maybe the alignment pin for the shifter,..and shift rod deal.

Other then that....lots of odds and ends that are not important or critical the the vehicles road going ability.....I never cared about anything other then function anyways other then the car being clean. Things like the center console,...the whole thing is cracked in a couple of places. I tried to fix,...it looked flawless for a while but, I think the car idling cracked it at the repaired seams. lol. I tried. But, that, I wanna do vacuum lines better, hard lines, etc. Whatever else pops up along the way. I gotta hook may HIDS back up too,..dammit.

I'm a little surprised that you are still running a MAF with this build. You may have covered this before, but would you mind commenting on why you are keeping the MAF?

I was really interested to hear that your stock C5 radiator is adequate for street driving. I'm in the market for a new radiator/fan setup for my twin turbo build in a '69 Nova. I might just "borrow" the radiator from my C5 and see how it fits.

Nobody is set on keeping the MAF, it just has not had a chance to get strapped to the dyno since it has been running, its going to take some time to set up an SD tune properly ;)

Word. Only reason for center section is to try and prolong the life of the carbon. Direct heat and placement on pipes, may not like it. Everything on the exhaust will be coated black when done, the pipes will also be wrapped. Thanks for the insight guys. Also...why cant the mufflers be similar in design, with carbon fiber 'housings'?

Gonna look sick one way or the other. Not like it maters though, someone is going to have to be hauling ASS to see them things up close

Lol...I sure as hell hope so but,..it'd be nice after a race(a win for me race of course- :pimp: ) .....if the person would be like "damn your cars fast......but those TIPS ARE BADASS!!"

Yes, 3" inside diameter, the same size of each pipe exiting each turbo, all the way back. I originally thought the 3" middle, no silver ring, would look the best...

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i86/V-seriesTech/SU1HXzMyNzUuanBn.jpg

...which was my initial heartfelt want. I just always thought it would be a sick setup. Maybe I should have gotten smaller tubes?...Oh well. I dunno what they would look like on the car(3" with 4" as pictured above actually on car). What I do know is that I pretty much want the tops of the tips, to come out no more then 1/4 inch to a half inch out the back of the car...so if you were standing right up on it, that would be all of the tips, that you'd see. No more, no less.

The mufflers, made out of carbon,...as many times as I looked at motorcycle cans for idea's,...I honestly never thought about it,...I guess mostly cause I am already Leary about the carbon and exhaust heat that is probably pretty hot, since my whole system is wrapped in excessively A LOT of header wrap...the carbon I have is rated to like 300 degrees...or something. Should be enough but,...I dunno.

If you look in this pic....you can see the ACTUAL mufflers in the backround,....the drilled pipe, and the can housing in aluminum right next to it.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i86/V-seriesTech/SU1HXzcyNjguanBn.jpg

Very little restriction...if any,..very little sound absorption..but probably a lot more then what the carbon would handle. The sound would probably escape from the the sides of the carbon fiber mufflers...possibly.

Mike@Diablosport
04-10-2012, 10:21 PM
Yeah, I'm not sure about the silver ring, even if it is painted black...its like it needs some angle, or beveling to finish it maybe?

I hate to say it, but maybe look at some ricer tips to get some idears.

I realized those were the mufflers in that pic, which is what made me think, replace the metal outer shell with the carbon piece... ;)

The fuel system is a custom setup I made, all parts from racepart solutions, its a magnafuel protuner fuel pump/xl750 ....-10 feed line, -8 return, acceleronic's versa fueler, and hollley 120pound injectors or Bosch 160's... I have both, will run either of them, depending on a/f that day. All depends.

That all has worked.fine but I gotta see if my jet syphon setup is working....something is weird with that.

Okay cool. I've been starting some research on the widest size I can jam within the fenders without rubbing and being flush. I just bought a set of HRE wheels and I'm going to re-hoop them to achieve the right fitment. I'm just trying to find the widest I can go. Maybe 335 is pushing it a bit.

*got a lot of compliments from people at work today based off sound. All I did was go by dealership in 1st gear and snapped the throttle for a literal split second. Guess it sounds good going by. Moment I can get this 93 octane out,...I shouldn't have any issues getting to WOT.....especially since I have some sticky tires on the rear right now.

Rolling vids will be soon to follow...keep you posted.

Thanks D. Always appreciate compliments from a friend. The car is hopefully where it needs to be, within my budget anyways. Still needs a few things but,..the house is more important at the moment. I drained the 93 octane out today after hours, made sure everything was good, found some E85,..which was oddly very difficult to find,...then found it near my house. Tomorrow morning, will end up dumping that in, attnd going for an early mornin ride.

I am indeed planning on putting it to work on several east coast locals. Thanks again for the compliments,..if all goes well, i'll take it to the local hangout at towers tomorrow for the first time in years.

I don't think I did. Something tells me I checked a fuse a way back but,..truthfully, I am away from the car so often,..then so many cars in between,..hard to remember.

I would be able to diag it this saturday but, I think I am gonna go to an airshow...so thats that. Sunday,..I am gonna be at a drag event all day for rotary's. lol...yeah , I know.

Well, drove the car to the local car show... was pretty dope. People seem to dig the car,..and the carbon tips, which everyone seems to figure out on they're own(guess everyone naturally looks for exhaust pipes, even women-atleast what I saw tonight anyways). So all in all,..it passed that test tonight. Visual inspection so to speak.

More importantly, the vehicle ran well. Before the exhaust, I was having a fuel delivery problem,...it seemed tune related ,,,,so we tried to fill in the blanks...then the fuel pump actually failed,...which ended our search for the fuel issue. I am still on the FAT throttle tune....but now I have a new pump...so, the car on a HIT, will sputter and shit sparks all kinds of snappy like exhaust notes...poppoopopopopopopopoopopopopopoopoblatblat blatblatblattttt...etc. And doesn't feel very well......

.........but,...if I ever so slowly ease into the throttle...the car lets me actually get on the throttle,...and into boost,...and lemme tell you,..the car feels amazing. It was only for a couple thousand midrange RPMs but,...I was really happy the car felt that good. Gave me hope, motivation, and now i'm excited to get it to the rollers.

Then, I hung out for a bit at my boys house,...and right went I went to leave, the rain came down,..and I had a half hour ride home. Started on highway,..then felt I didn't really wanna be on he highway very much with how bad it was raining. So, ended up on side roads....sweating my balls off...

Regardless, it passed the extensive rain test,...I took some pics and vids...

V-seriesTech

Could be one or two several reasons. Mine, was.most likely fuel related, since that day in the video, I had an E85 tune but I had 93 octane in the car, causing a rich condition.

In any case, you may have ring issues, not sealing properly, maybe valve issues, if turbocharged, possibly turbo seal issues or turbo drain back flow issues. Those are typical issues as possibilities.

Yeah you should have the tune checked out...especially if you have cats(guessing you don't cause of smell) cause the fuel will ruin them. Cool.

On another note, my clutch is shuttering, with about 50 to 70% throttle input in 2nd or 3rd gears. Which is over triple digit speeds....so I would only assume it does at any gear. So, yeah, thats super gay. I do have another exoskel that I might swap in if I can this week.

But, lord oh lord when I can get it to no shutter or slip fot.a second, 80% max throttle the car pulls so hard, the rear view mirror folds back. Craziest shit ever. I move it with my hand back in place and it requires decent amount of force, so, the mirror isn't bad. The car is making POWA

Update Bro!! Whats going on with the build? Hopefully you haven't given up on it...

In a sentence, Fuck this thing.

Thats how I feel about it, most of the time. :D I did remove the drivetrain, and, I haven't done a thing with it since. Not that I haven't attempted, in a half ass way kinda. I want to send out my clutch(exoskel)/flywheel to be inspected, resurfaced, and if possible, balanced. I called a couple of spots here, but didn't get far. Honestly though, I haven't invested alot of time into calling....just called a couple places....ne and ne,....been to busy during day to scavenge for clutch places...after hours, when I have the time, nobody is open(I have a new, much busier, more stressful job position-leaves me no time during day)... So,...the clutch,...I need to find a place still. Maybe tonight, I won't relax,..and I'll spend my night, looking for places to do it. (not motivated to spend my time in front of a pc at night)...

,,,then there is the torque tube. Yeah, well, I called a well known company(specializes in this shit(chassis) ,....twice,..granted, it was late in the day but, I did leave messages, descriptive, name, number,..I never once recieved a call back. That was two weeks ago(thanks alot). I wanna call another place but,, they're site was blocked from work, and since then,...haven't really been motivated to find the free time to look for more places.

I'll get another companies info tonight, save the number, and call them tomorrow on lunch or something. I am ready to ship/send somewhere.

So, that's that noise.

On the other end, I had a day off last week, I did spend some time on the vette. I finished solid control arm bushing swap, which has been a thorn in my side to get done. I did the bottoms a while back when the car was down,..cause it was easy, and I had the time... well, time escapes these days but,, finally, the uppers, and lowers are completely done. Eventually, 4 new tires, and I am going to align the car. I can't wait to drive it like that, solid bushings, solid mounts, coilovers and some sort of RR tire.

I also did the longer rear studs, cause with my FIKSE's,..they're for a C6,. so I used 1/4 spacers, now I have 3/8's, with hardened studs. So It should give the car a little more aggressive look. What else.....hmmm.....O,..I ordered some HARDLINE and fittings from RacePartSolutions in Boca,Fl today cause I am tired of looking at sloppy vacuum lines on the driver side. So,..Not a major priority at the moment but,..those will probably get done soon too.

That's the problem, the longer the car sits, the more SHIT I end up buying. Sucks, cause, I want a house.....the car is not making it easy.

Thinking very hard about the future of it....and what I am gonna do with it. The TT LSX mustang I was building, may have a very interested buyer for that suddenly, so that may go as well.

Yes, some progress but,....not what I, or anyone wants to hear. As you can see, I'm all over the place with this thing. :bang:

Serious or not thats some funny sheet

A little bit of work capitol improvements and you've got a big enough vacuum forming machine for car parts and fake kitty parts

Lol. A man can dream. if that were true, I'd wanna be the mold former/maker.

Cool sign me up!

Storm/security shutters/gutters/and those steel cabinets and shelfs you see everywhere. My uncle and cousin.....I work a couple hours away.

Update:

So, installed a triple disc clutch. Made mods to slave as directed for proper engagement. However, unable to engage gears while engine is operating. So, obviously I have a measurement off,..even though, my measurements match those of the manufactures. So,..either, I am going to buy a slave, from the manufacture, or I am just gonna take the drive train out,..sell it(trans, torque tube, and diff) and save for a TR6060 and C6 diff.

At this point, I have made my piece with the car. It runs,..the engine is strong, it's just not drivable, and I have too many things going on to be bolting, unbolting, bolting,unbolting,bolting,unbolting,X-10 trying out different spacers. I have, or we have a big project to do for a friend,..a complete drivetrain, interior, exterior, 418ci, LS7headed F1X C6 on E85 that is at this point,..gonna take priority since my shit is never gonna workout.

Anyways,..should answer most questions about the car. Yes, the clutch has been bled. Many, many,......many times have been spent opening and closing, pushing, releasing, crawling up and filling reservoirs...which reminds me, I want a larger reservoir for my clutch fluid.

Watch for the build on the C6...should be fun..once we get everything.

Here's a few pics of the car, and C6

Heard a rumor that your next project, the C6, is going to put down over 1000whp,:D:chug::usa:.

Sounds like death to me. LOL. I haven't driven "MY" car in rage in years......starting to get old. So very close but, no hot chick holding a box of cigars or anything...not yet. All i wanted to do, was run and race the car with some cool weather..... doesn't seem to be happening any time soon....

...so..I get to work on someone else's car, again. Love it, I will enjoy every second...but,..what can you do. So, yes, the F1X car will be sick. For what it's worth,...we also have an LT4 C4 GS to finalize, a GTO to mini tub, a solid roller trans am that needs a clutch, and a C5R Z06 that we need to get back on the road, this year. SO,..as you can see, once I pull off my car,..and get in gear with these other cars....my car looks further, and further away.

Just wanna drive my shit...

Joey I don't know how you guys do it bro. It ain't easy standing up, let alone laying down. I haven't had to do that in years. However,...I think I will be joining those ranks again soon. If I finally get a house this year,..I do plan to bring the car(s) home and work/weld/mod in the garage,..of jack stands and such, until I can map out a lift or something,..if even possible.

Between 2 and 3 grand to have a lift bought and installed usually.
