Drag strip gearing. Need advice.
Ok my truck is getting close. Current setup is a 32" tall slick and 5.14 gears. Trucks about 3,200 lbs. Engine made 843 hp @ 6,500 rpm. Now looking at some calculators they are saying I need about a 4.23 gear ratio with a 1:1 trans ratio to come through the traps at around 6,500rpm. Does this sound right to all of you? I know the 5.14's are to low and will need to change. With my 2,600 lb car and 5.14 with the same tire and glide went through the traps at 7,800 rpm shifting at 7,500. Thanks ahead. I should mention it's a 2wd.

Well I don't have the convertor or transmission yet but its going to be a Bruno lenco Or jeffco with the cloan bolt together converter. I don't believe the Bruno drive is a lock up convertor so the typical 7% slippage maybe?? I guess I don't know for sure.

I'd first check with Coan on what they feel the slippage percentage will be with this combination. Bob
