Default Cam install

Since my motor is on the stand can I install the new cam in it upside down to prevent the lifters from dropping? This may be a dumb question but I'm just wondering...

I don't see why not. But why don't you just put some dowel rods in thetwo holes next to the cam just turn the cam as you install the dowel rods.

sure you can. but if the motor is out of the car it doesn't really matter. the scare factor of having a lifter drop is more for someone doing a cam swap with the motor in the car. for you it would be easy to remove the oil pan to retrieve the lifter if it fell.

if you have the motor out of the car now is the time to "freshen" things up. new head gaskets, new main, rod and cam bearings, new rings and a hone= new motor.

The motor only has about 30xxx miles on it so I wasn't too worried about going into the motor.

And as you've been finding out the hard way, doing those things without precision measuring tools and a detailed step-by-step procedure = dead motor.

You should stop posting bad advice.

I suppose a reader considering following your advice would want a sample of your expertise...

I can understand why 3rd coast would be upset.
There is such a thing as constructive criticism. And then there is insulting language put out for all to see.
Socially adept people understand this, and use the PM for such 'advice'.

He's got some growing up to do. And some learning about engines, for that matter.

The quote your talking about was on a customers buddy's LS2 rebuild. The motor was built perfectly and to spec. The reason it was having a hard time starting was we had a segmented cam gear installed and we needed the half moon cam gear. We swapped cam gears, car fired right up and has been running strong for 8,000 miles now. So **** YOU cornholio. If your going to bash people by using copy and paste from other posts then you need to put the quote into context. As far as growing up goes, im grown *******. I just don't take **** from a ****** internet "expert such as yourself. So once again get your facts strait and **** YOU

Wait a minute...you're running a garage and coming here for advice on how to undo your screwups? That's what all of your posts are really about?
