In all my time of driving I've never understood
the 2-1 misshift. Ive hit 5 a couple times but to
hit 1 is just bad technique. Think about it
you have to pull to the left to go back to 1st.
Try no fingers, all palm forward push and you'll
always end up in 3rd. Point toward the radio.
The other only miss I get(rarely) is a 5-2 looking
for fourth but that's pulling right either way with
the LSS ofset.

Not flaming but there are correct hand placements
for shifting that all but eliminate missing.
I'm just getting used to 4-5 with my hand fliped
over(thumb down/palm facing passenger). I always
just pushed up/right but like I said the 13 degress offset
of my LSS takes some readjusting.

once or twice you'd probably be ok. from the research i've done, bent pushrods are only a missed shift away and i just recent hada buddy with a bone stock 02 ws6 do this same thing and i mean it BENT one of his rods really bad.... **** looked like a retarded **** star....so bad that luckily he was still under warrenty and the stupid ****** here replaced the motor instead of just pulling out the rods and replacing them.

i agree with locosteelersfan...its a techinique we all have to learn and with each car it seems to vary just slightly. and id say this might be a good reason to upgrade to a b&m ripper shifter or a pro 5.0 shifter..with Lou's Short Stick, or jarreds Short stick, you cannot go wrong with the looks and it will put less stress on the tranny as its much harder to miss shifts with these things. I still got my b&m i got 3 months ago waiting to go in...im just too lazy to do it hehe

good luck you should be ok dude, but take heed to locosteelersfan's advice. not dissin you or anything...we've all missed a few shifts from time to time im sure.

isnt there supposed to be a solenoid or something that stops you from going into first over 40-45mph? If you have driven a m6 more than 2 weeks i dont see how you misshift. this is my first stick shift and i hace never misshifted (knock on wood). I have stock everything and it has never been a problem.

I would just be more careful. Mistakes happen but it probably shouldn't have happened twice.

Ahh, I wouldn't worry about it. If they car is running fine, chances are nothing was damaged. You may have had a problem if you stayed and tried to drive in first gear, ut i am guessing as soon as you heard the engine scream, you pushed in the clutch again. I wouldn't worry about it.

Proper shifting requires " NO G R I P "
Save all that ruff **** fer your tool, shift your M6 like you should shift your woman.
The easier you do it the better it works

And as soon as you heard the rev's coming up, you dumped the clutch right back in, right? I can't imagine anybody ever getting the clutch fully engaged in 1st at 55 - unless you really are new at the manual transmission thing...

My thoughts exactly. The few times I hit a wrong
gear, I was only slightly out of the clutch before realizing
and pushing it back in.

never gone from 2 - 1, but I did go from 5 - 2 once. Damn was that scary. The whole car shook and luckily I had the clutch back in as soon as I realized what gear I had slammed into. With the LSS it is a bit difficult sometimes to know if I'm going into 4th or 2nd. Only happened once though, and the car drove fine after that with no noticebale problems other than the poop smell coming from my pants.

first as stated above you need to change you hand positions on shift...
my guess is you have your hand on the right side of the shifter, correct?
thats the right place for 1-2 but then put your palm on the back side of the shift fingers over the top. even on a power shift the shift will find 3rd every time. for 4th bring your hand to the left side of your shifter thumb faceing down and pull it back with your fingers...
bingo should never happen again...

to the guy that said he never missed a shift.....
you will....
evey racer that ever drove a manual has missed shifts.... bar NONE....

hope that helps some

I did a 1-2-1 with no problems, however I pressed the clutch in as soon as the car started shaking..

I cant go from 2-1 unless I am going under 25. If I try, my gears grind. Is this normal?

16nrollinaws6: Yes, mine does that as well, but you can still FORCE it in there if you are really pushing.

As for the misshift, I had a cheapo ebay short shifter, and the thing hated going into reverse with it on, and the stick stuck so far over that I missed the 1-2-3 shifter constantly with 1-2-1, luckily I was just driving normal.. The shifter just sucked that bad With the stock pro 5.0 handle, its almost IMPOSSIBLE to do a 1-2-1 shift, I'm at a loss figuring out how that could happen as well.. I would let this be a lesson learned if nothing is broken, and try and get some practice. Next time you might not be so lucky

You guys are totally discarding that it could have been his first time ever driving stick... Maybe he just got the car, or something?

Other than that, I agree, it's pretty hard to do unless your trying to do it.

I never went 1-2-1...but I have made some stupid mistakes. I used to drive a 4 spd Muncie in my SS Nova, and reverse was all the way to the left and up(where our 1st would be). So, to get into 3rd, you would move all the way to the right and up. Well, a couple of times, I have meant to hit 5th(similar position as 3rd on the 4 spd) and I tried forcing it into reverse at like 55-60mph. Really nasty grinding sound. I did it twice in the same night, and maybe once since then. I was PISSED!
