Default quick ? about chroming caliper brackets

Im going to get the g2 caliper paint in nbm to match the color of my z. I was thinking of chrome plating the brackets to put a lil flash behind the wheels. My question is, will doing the chrome plating make it a pain in the butt to put them back together on the car due to the layer of chrome over the brackets?

Thanks.

I dont know about chrome platting them but might want to look into just polishing them up!!! looks good and a whole lot cheaper.

Polishing them will take a lot of maintenance thereafter to keep them looking good. I picked up a can of duplicolor chrome paint for $6, they look real nice...I didn't sand them at all so they are still bumpy. Just make sure you clean them very well! If I were to do it again I'd sand them smooth then spray them chrome. I can get pictures if you want.

Chrome plating them can get expensive...if I recall correct, someone said it costs ~$60 for each bracket.

I want to see pics of the "chrome" duplicolor paint. I just did mine in black and I have polished calipers. Looks real nice.

Sorry the pictures aren't the best, the car is in storage so I couldn't get distant or outside shots.

It's not a deep shine or anything, but for $6 it looks great.

Polished caliper.. I could've done a way better job. If you're worried about keeping them clean, put a coat of Zaino on them. Or even better, buy the Eastwood aluminum/metal clear coat and clear over them.

Chrome looks good, but polished looks better. Ive always liked and wanted to polish but seems like way too much work to maintain, does the clear really work pretty well because i didn't think it would hold up.

If you clear aluminum it will take away some of the shine. Those brackets Conrad posted don't look bad, but they look kinda silver. I think it'd look better if he sanded them smooth then shot them with the chrome paint.

Yea they do look a little silver, but when you compare them to my dad's calipers and brackets (he did red and silver) they do look different. I agree that they'd look a lot better if they were sanded down but it's just a PITA to do that so I opted out of that. I am happy with the way they are. I remember on my first car, a v6 camaro, all I did was stuffed some newpaper under the caliper and on the rotor and sprayed away.

Those painted ones look pretty nice. Polished looks great too. That is a lot of work though. I'm thinkin chrome because I think when the car is out in the sun the nbm on the caliper would reflect off the chrome and give it a lil pop. (The nbm by itself behind the wheels looks black in the shade.) So I'm lookin for a smooth shiney surface. The thing I'm concerned with is the thickness of the chrome on the brackets making things difficult to put back together.

Also, what material are the brackets made of? I thought the calipers were aluminium and the brackets steel. If they are aluminium I would think more on polish then clear coat em. That is as long as the clear doesn't yellow over time.

I'll call a place today on the cost of chrome. Seems like I called about something else awhile back and it wasn't too bad.

The brackets are made out of aluminum mixed with something else I believe. They rust fast as hell. I sanded mine down a few nights ago and let them sit out overnight before painting them the next day and they were already rusted lol

chrome in a can looks like silver to me, i think your best option would be the polished pc that was posted, i have seen intakes done with it , doesnt so much look like chrome but i think its a better option than chrome in a can

Get them powdercoated chrome. It won't have the shine of real chrome but still shine. Done and durable.

Powder coat chrome is a good option. I'm looking into that now. I've had a couple parts done in the past with the chrome powder coat and its ok. I am lookin for just a little more shine though and i guess there is a powder coating out now that looks more like chrome. I left a message at a local shop to check it out. The actual chrome looks to be pretty pricey. I haven't heard back from the guy yet but from all my searching its lookin to be quite a bit more than I'm willin to spend.

OP, post pics after you finish your work, I was thinking of doing the same thing as you with my nbm but want to see a pic of it first. I'm just going to paint the brackets silver and call it a day.

I need to do mine, i personally don't like anything but subtle colors for calipers. No offence to anyone or anything, some cars can put them off fine but yeah i see red/green/blue all day everyday and x2 on the weekend haha.

I'm going with black caliper w/ silver bracket and chrome decal or vice versa w/ black decal.
