Question Anyone ever sleeve an iron 6.0 block? Details?

Anyone ever sleeve an iron 6.0 block? Details?

Reason I'm asking is a friend was thinking about running a Gen III motor in a racing class that requires iron blocks. He would like to get the most bore possible say 4.125-4.155 instead of just on 4.060

Any details on how the sleeves held up?

BTW - I did a search and didn't find any info on this.

Thank you.

Yes, I know that but an iron block can be bored out and sleeved. It's fairly common to sleeve an iron block for several reason. I was wondering if anyone had tried that with a 6.0 yet.

It's sometimes done when an iron block gets damaged with SBC/SBF engines etc.

We have done a few repairs on the 6.0 blocks but never say a 4.100 bore. The OD of the 5.7 case is different in water jacket area and would definately(just a reccom. ) be a wet sleeve design if you want the big bore. We have re-sleeved many earlier style blocks but don't really rec. sleeveing every hole in the 6.0 if you are looking at very high HP( only because I havn't seen anyone do it yet ) but doesn't mean it can't be done. We spent alot of time and money on the aluminum re-sleeves, someone else can figure out the cast iron

Good luck and keep us posted

there was one on ebay. you'll have to search through the 30 pages of ls1 parts, but there was a 6.0L block that had been bored and resleeved for a 4.080 bore, or that is what the ad said. if i find it again i'll post the link.

Steve@RaceEngineering mentioned some interest in resleeving an iron block for the Darton MID setup. Might be a good idea to ask him.

Yea, from what I read, he was already working/developing them? If I got one, I'd want it to be from him!

No doubt, he's the mac-daddy at these MID blocks.

Hey guys,

Just talked to Steve (he's my neighbor) about the iron MID and dry sleeves. He'll have a couple in a week or so. I mentioned this thread, asked him some questions, so I thought I would pass along his thoughts (he said it was okay).
First, yeah, they're gonna do an iron MID, but the cost is probably double that of an aluminum block. The reason is time. It takes almost two days to machine one. Iron is tougher than aluminum, obviously.
As far as dry sleeves, the walls are so thin, you can't get much of a sleeve in them, certainly not one to accomplish 4.125. That 4.080 sleeve job mentioned would probably leave the block wall less than .020 thick, if that.
