Default Can someone explain cam LSA's with the +numbers......

Hi, I was just wondering if someone could explain to me why so many cams have their specs listed with LSA's like 113+2 or 110+5.

I have built engines and installed cams using a degree wheel, so I understand installing a cam straight up, advancing or retarding it. I just don't understand why they can't just say 115LSA instead of 112+3.

A 112+3 cam is not the same as 115LSA.It is 112 LSA advanced(+)3 degrees to a 109 ICL(Intake Center Line). The LSA is ground into the cam and can't be changed and most cams have a few degrees advance ground in.The 112+3 cam installed dot to dot would be at 109 ICL.
