A different take on the export tail lights (still just an idea)
So I've had a pair of mint export tails laying around for a while, and while I like the stock '95 Z28 tails, I think I wanna try out the exports now. Besides, if I don' like how they look, I can always put the stockers back on.
My idea is to have the amber turn signal part sprayed red. Now, I've seen it done on here before and it looks good IMO.
What I wanna do too, is to have both parts light up red. I think it's possible since the 93-96 tail lights are lit up by three bulbs each. I'm pretty sure I need to ditch the most outer bulb, am I right? (blue X over it in the picture lol)
I know I have to modify either the bulb sockets or the tail lamp housing itself. I'd go check myself if the car wasn't in storage over the winter.
If that didn't make any sense (English is my third language), I did a quick chop on how it could look. Tell me what you think.

I would think with the lens being amber that you wouldn't get a true red light from it... I would stick with the lt1 style lights if you are wanting to do that. Also, you can modify the wiring to have it all light up and maybe make the reverse light a switchback led bulb and be white for reverse and the amber for turns... Just a thought though

If you want it to look red and match the other lights spray them all red at the same time. I have the LS1 lights on mine and I didn't like the amber. I sprayed them with a semi transparent (like a tinted clear coat) red. I only masked off the white reverse lights, that way all of the red matches. I did run regular bulbs in them and it was very hard to tell anything had been done, when I switched to LEDs no one I showed them to could tell a difference. I have since sprayed some nightshade on them and that helped a lot more because they are now darker. I didn't black them out though.
This is the only pic I have of the back of the car right now I know its dark and not a great shot. Plus in this shot they look black in real life they are about as dark as a new trail blazer tail light.

Even if you could get the reds to match it might look a little funny since only half of the middle portion lights up. I do agree with you though exports look good with amber part tinted red, I thought of doing the same to mine, but moving the break lights to the outer part of the housing and the turn signals to the middle.

Like Mr. Trick said, it might look funky. But yes, you can make the reds match perfectly.... I did. Any remember, if these look at all off, it's because none of these pics were of the tails themselves, the tails are just in the shots. Looking right at them, you can't tell anything at all isn't factory.

Thanks for the input guys! I'll have to think about this, but I'm definitely keeping the exports. I did get the original wiring with them, bulb sockets and all. So I might just use that and have them light up like they're supposed to.
lol! Well, I know my English doesn't suck, but I wasn't sure if I had gotten my point across at all.
