I recently purchased a 6 point jig notched roll bar from a board member for very cheap. He bought it a few years back, and never did anything with it, other than let it sit in the elements. It has some rust, but I am in the process of sandblasting it piece by piece at work and prepping it for paint. My question is, the roll bar has a removable cross bar. I know this is NOT NHRA legal, but if I weld the cross bar in place, so that it is no longer removable, would that pass tech, or would they still gripe about it? If it won't then I won't bother to weld it up.

If the cross bar is properly welded in, it isn't removable anymore? You shouldn't have a problem.

The crossbar welds in yes, but has pins much like a removable swing arm to be able to take it out. I was thinking of welding the joint up and removing the pins to make it 100% not removable.

Right I understand that. I meant if you fully weld the bar in so you can't remove it, you will be fine.

I agree with the above. You shouldn't have a problem.

Don't know if you've tried it, but white vinegar removes rust very well. Might help you speed up the process.

It takes about 15 minutes per bar sandblasting it, not long at all. Only time I have to work on it though is my lunch break, so it will just be a drawn out process doing 1 bar a day.
