I am hooking the transmission to a 2010 camaro ls3 motor. Going in a 68 Camaro that should be putting down close to 650 rwhp.
Can I just buy a new one from someone (takeout) and have it upgraded? Rather start off new vs someone elses junk.
Thank you

Don't waste your money on a 6l80e. Been through 2 of them built by big firms. They still slip and a tune is a hard thing to do. Put your money in a 4l80e which has had more time to perfect.

I agree with silver2010, far as I know only shift kits are available for 6l80e transmissions,I have seen a company that builds these 6l80es but its not worth it, plus they are tougher to tune due to that they tend to slip too much. Consider buying a 4l80e :) give Jakes Transmissions a call or RPM sponsors here in LS1 Tech for one :) they do great jobs on those 4l80e's. Dont invest on a 6l80e!

We work with Circle D transmissions. We have installed and tested a few of their experimental 6L80's and converters and I'm very impressed.
We can also hook you up with a trans tuning expert.
Thanks

^^^SOMETIMES I cant help but laugh at people when they are just trying to sell something. .
I have had a very quick vette (bottom tens na) I have a ctsv which has the tougher 6l90 in it and I have a Zl1. ..I trust Rodney and the guys at RPM with anything and they have made my trans work ,, BUT, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DONT WALK AWAY FROM ANYONE TELLING YOU A 6L80 WILL WORK, RUN... for 650rwhp you dont even really need a 4l80 unless the car is really heavy.. One of RPMs 4l60s will eat less power, weigh less and last..

I've never sold a Circle D trans or converter and I'm not trying to sell them, we've only installed them for customers that ordered them and asked them to install them. One customer is a test subject for Circle D.
We have customers running transmissions from just about every trans builder there is, the op asked about 6L80 options and I told him what our experiences were.
I'm sure everybody makes a good transmission, just going off what I've seen in customers cars.

thing is, and you can ask anybody who is honest.. there is no such thing as a good 6l80... the tuning nightmares, the pressure drop issues with big converters..some guys have good luck with them at the track, some guys have good luck with them on the street, nobody in a car that weighs anything has good luck with them doing both well.. fact is, they are so good, GM is replacing them after ONE generation of corvette... i love the close ratios, and the fact they shift so fast and dont allow much rpm drop.. makes for a fun street car.. but the aggrivation is just not worth it in a car you can put ANY trans in..

I know of many 6l80's and 90's that are living up to the horsepower and torque. Over on the Camaro forums there is a guy running high 9's with a bunch of PATC stuff that was built by Janetty Racing. It has been over a year that it has been together. Circle D, PATC, Century all build really good units. Kyle left from Circle D and went to work for Exedy so I am not sure of the builder they have now.

i was thinking about going 6l80/90 for my swap (whenever i get it really rolling) and since my truck will weigh close to 2900lbs, i think that i have a pretty wide ranges of transmissions to choose from. My GF has an L99 5th gen and i love the way the gearing is. Plus her car has been abused since she picked it up in '09. As soon as she hit 600 miles, to the track it went. She currently has 68,000 on the clock now
