Default CAM for A4?

What is a perfect cam for a fairly stock 2000 A4 TA? Plan on getting headers shortly. I don't want to have to tune much.

You'll need to define what you mean by perfect cam, what goal do you have in mind ? Are you going to have it tuned via LS1edit ?

Here is a general idea of how my 2001 Z (A4) responded to cam changes. The car idles perfect, has a nice lope to it even though its on a 114 it has absolutely no surging or driveability issues. Once I got my 1st cam I wish I had went bigger, so decide now unless you don't mind swapping cams 6 months down the road.

Comp Cam 216/220 525.532 114lsa:
352rwhp(unlocked) through Bassani Mids/Catted Y-pipe and Vig2800 2.5str; LS1edit.

Absolute Speed Stage 1x Heads:
375rwhp(unlocked) same mods as above

Thunder 224/224 563.563 114lsa:
390rwhp(unlocked) added Mezeire EWP, Comp 918's, TR 7.400 chromoly pushrods, Rollmaster double roller timing chain.

Good luck on your choice.

A4 is pickey anything with some lope or IMO that is higher than 214 duration is gonna probable cause some Idleing issues and misfire codes. so if your gonna do a cam and need tuning I wouldnt go less than 220 duration.

Default How 'bout this?

How would a 224/224/ 568/ 568 114LSA react on a relatively stock A4?

Basically, don't do a cam without doing tuning. You can, but your choices are much greater if you include tuning.

The 224 duration cams TR224, whatever) are the best all-around off-the-shelf choice I've seen for the Gen III.
