I went out to my car and i tried to start it but my battery was dead. I took the battery out of my truck and was putting it in my car and as i was hooking up the negative, i heard the doors lock. Well, i get a coat hanger in there and push the unlock button on both doors and nothing happens. Try to roll the windows down but the key is not on. Tried unhooking the battery and doing it again and it keeps on locking my doors. The lock button works but the unlock doesn't. I went to the dealership and had a key made for my car that cost $20 and it doesn't flipping work. Is this some kind of security precaution or do i have a gliche in my wiring? I am perplexed and need to get into my car. Any suggestions???:bang:

Well the door key should open the door regardless if the battery is dead or not.
I would try all 3 doors and see if that works. Or try and get that hanger to hit the unlock button on the key fob?

I hate getting locked out of your car..

Ignition key doesnt work in the door of our cars you need the other key with the round head.

If you have AAA call them or if not call a locksmith. Good luck. And once you get your keys back make a copy of your door lock key and keep it in your wallet.

this is a good point... are you sure you got the right key?

Otherwise yeah call AAA or locksmith as someone said above.

What I commonly see on my car and others is if you never use the key to get in the car and only use the key fob sometimes the key won't turn in the door. Try spraying some WD-40 in the key hole and see if that works.

That's assuming you had the dealer cut you the door key and not ignition like others in the post have mentioned. I would think the ignition key with the security chip would cost more than $20 but who knows....old technology

We've all done it (once).
Note to self: always keep a door key wired under all vehicles.

i did get a door key and have exhausted all options. My spare key is lost in a storage unit so i called the ole allstate motorclub elite roadside assistance. We will see what they can do with it. Thanks for the post guys.

If the security system engaged, the door key won't work. Learned that the hard way when I lost my keys and got my backup set out.

The dealer can only cut a key based on the specs from when it was new. If a previous owner had the locks changed or door replaced, the new key you got will never work

Did you try using the key you got made on the hatch lock. It may open that then you just crawl in.

i tried everything. I just had the allstate guy pop the lock manually. Now i have another question. Will my car lose its tune since i disconnected the battery for over 30 minutes?

No your car will not lose it's tune. I keep my battery disconnected 7-8 months of the year and I've never had an issue w/ it.
