Now that I have your attention, lol. What are the Carburated guys using to lift thier engines into the cars? I could use the carb mounting flange style, or ive always seen the valley cover plate style also. Im thinking the carb style would be more versitile for other vehicles I work on, but wondering what everyone else is doing. Thanks, Eric L

lol I used a fiber 4ft sling choked under the plenum of the manifold front to back. I think it worked great. carb flange lifting bracket would be what I used otherwise

Ive given thought about the carb flange ones before, but the idea of lifting an entire motor up with 4 3/8 bolts threaded into aluminum makes me nervous. I like the strap/sling idea though. Eric L

I welded up some flat steel in T's with a chain slot to bolt to the front of one and the back of the other head. That allowed me to use a leveler.

Really the carb manifold bracket is more than strong enough. I have seen guys using nothing more than an exhaust manifold bolt on either side of the motor.

I just can't bring myself to use the carb flange one But that's me.

I've always used the exhaust bolt holes or front and rear accessory bolt holes on the heads (cross corner).

May have to try that strap idea though

I lifted out a BBC today using just the carb plate.. worked for me, and I've done it a 100+ times, Not exactly sure the weight is one a lsx but Im sure the BBC is heavier.

I bought one of those four corner deals with the leveling crank. I will not put another motor in without it, especially if the trannie is attached. Gives complete control of motor/trannie angle going in. Thing made ME look like i knew what i was doing!
Oh, and I used the acc holes in the heads on all four corners.

The problem I run into with my perticular setup is that the motor is VERY close to the firewall. SO bolting a chain or strap to the back of either head is out. Thats why im leaning towards the carb mounting flange idea. And with a mid plate mounted to the chassis, tipping and aligning is not really a problem. Although, the hillbilly in me really, REALLY likes Barrets sling idea, lol. No really, Ive never thought about it before, thats kinda slick, lol. Eric L

The sling around the intake definatly works. That is how I got the motor off the truck. Takes some strong finger action to loosen the cinch on the strap when you take it off though. well at least the way mine was wrapped up.

Been using carb mounted plates since I started yanking and installing carbed engines, never had a hiccup, even with a transmission attached, so if that is not good enough, then the valley cover design is the only other option I assume.

I do it same way with a lvler too
