Default The Next Collectible Muscle Car?

Been hearing for a few years that the second gen T/As are the next collector muscle car...but I haven't seen much a change in sale prices to back up that statement. Check out this video of the sales prices of just a handful of the amazing, beautiful Tran Ams at the recent Mecum Muscle Cars and More auction in Kissimmee Florida.

What do you think? I have a friend with a 2000 SLP Camaro for sale with around 50K miles on it but he's holding out for $20K. Seems too high to me at this point.

Your friend's an idiot...that's WAY too many miles if you are trying to pass it off as a collector's item. They made way too many of these cars to command that kinda price.

Thanks for the comments guys. I know that's too much which is why it's still sitting in his garage. I have a feeling his wife is telling him to sell it and he's advertised it for that price for a reason. :-)

For a 2002 CE SS he might get 16k out of the right buyer, but an 00 SS with 50k miles is only about a 12k car at best in pristine condition.

The "key" for things being collectible (or at least prices rising from the gutter) is what was cool when the 30-50 year old crowd was in high school. Late 2nd gens and 3rd gens are going up in price because those were the cool cars to have when that demographic was 16 years old. Now they have the money to finally get what they have wanted for 25-30 years. The prices will reflect that increasing popularity.

4th gen prices are in the toilet right now. I'm 27 now, and in high school from 99-03 they were the coolest cars I had ever seen. I guarantee when I'm 35 the 2002 Z28 you can buy for 6k right now will be closer to 10k.

I think the 4th gen cars are gonna be going up eventually because older faster cars that are easy to mod in good shape are always hard to come by. If you keep the car long enough in decent shape. I know i had a few people up here that wanted to buy mine off me and mine is nothing special at all, but there isn't that many in Quebec.

Your friend would be the luckiest guy on the planet to sell his car for 20k. I only got (as my memory recalls) around 21k for my 35th LE and it had 8,700 miles on it.

What's a CE SS? You mean LE?
