For all the ZR1 nut-swingers, the $100K Z06 was a second faster around the track than the $130K ZR1 :D They should have left out the supercharger on the ZR1! The Z06 matched it in braking, beat it by 0.02G on the skidpad and 1mph through the slalom. It's always been my favorite, hard to beat a 7.0L 7000RPM beast of an engine that still gets 30mpg on the highway!

I've always preferred the Z06 to the ZR1. Starting with a lighter car and a higher revving 7.0 sounds like a better deal in my opinion. I knew the Z06 was capable, but I never thought it would actually top the ZR1. I'm impressed.

I'm with you on that. I like the ZR1 a lot but the Z06 just seems like a more balanced car (from what I"ve heard I should say..).

In my opinion, the GS and base C6's are the absolute BEST bang for your buck out of the bunch. Z06 isn't bad either but once you start adding some options to it, the price really gets a little too steep for what you're getting. This just how I see it though

I think it's retarded that you can add what, $15k in PERFORMANCE upgrades to a $75k Corvette. It should come with everything minus the interior options for $75k. The ZR1 is really nuts though, $130k for a car that looks pretty much the same as a $50k base Corvette, when you could get a GTR (not a fan) for $99k, and have a car that's faster around most tracks with most drivers, runs 10s out of the box, and has more gadgets/a better interior. The Viper really needs to come back to get Chevy's head out of the clouds with their pricing/options. That, or Chevy needs to stop making a Corvette to the ZR1 level and come out with a different car altogether.

Yup. Like I said, Z06 is alright if you just buy a base 1LZ or even a 2LZ because it falls right there in the middle of the GS and ZR1 in terms of pricing and performance. But to me anything beyond those trims, the Z06 almost becomes pointless to buy. It just comes too close to ZR1 territory and too far away from the GS price wise, which just completely defeats the purpose of the current C6 Z as a whole.

You still have to pay extra for the suspension and everything too. I understand having different interior options, but a top shelf Corvette should get all the go fast goodies. The magnetic ride package is a $15k option (comes with some other shit too), that's just stupid.

I'm impressed.Same here, I like the ZR1 but have always liked the lighter Z06 much more.
The ZR1 is really nuts though, $130k$111,600.00 (before discounts/rebates) actually. But yes, still a lot of money.
You can probably get a 2012 ZR1 for under $100k right now. 2011 leftover for under $90k.
for a car that looks pretty much the same as a $50k base CorvettePoint taken.
Same exact thing applies to the Porsche 911 line, the $160+k 911 Turbo S doesn't look all that different from the $82k Carrera.
or Chevy needs to stop making a Corvette to the ZR1 level and come out with a different car altogether. There is a chance that will happen during the C7 era. There will be a base car for sure at first and I'm sure with an upmarket model coming later on. I would think there's a better chance of the Z06 model being dropped and the ZR1 type model (supercharged/turbocharged?) remaining or maybe they'll even develop a combination of the two cars (Z06 & ZR1) into just one as a whole new model?

New, I agree. Used, you can't beat the Z06 in the "bang-for-the-buck" pricing. Those things can be had for about $40K now with low mileage. Unreal.

Yes, but don't get confused. The early c6 Zs can not match the current car around the race track, especially if you are looking at times for the Z07/Carbon car.

Agreed. The small tweaks to the car over the years have made it better, but talking bang-for-the-buck, used Z06 wins.

Z06 Ultimate Perfromance Package includes:
Ceramic Brakes
Magnetic Selective Ride Control
Performance Traction Management
Enhanced Cooling
Michelin Sport Cup tires
$7500
Above package requires Carbon Fiber package at $3995
1ZL with above options comes in at $90,565. None of the BS all of the performance.
Magnetic Selective Ride Control can be added to a car independent of other options for $2495
1LZ with just MSRC is $79,070
Would you care to revise your complaint?

$130k is the as tested price, I know what the base price is, you shouldn't be able to add $20k on top of a $110k Corvette haha.
Point taken.

No it's not the same, the C6 at least looks different than every other gen, a first gen 911 looks the same as the last, and everyone in between! (not a 911 fan if you couldn't guess ha)

You can't get just the magnetic ride without the Z06 Ultimate Perfromance Package and the Carbon Fiber package, so no, I would not care to revise my complaint. The Z06 Ultimate Perfromance Package should all be standard equipment, or you should at least be able to get it without the Carbon package.

That is not what the Chevy website just told me. MSRC is a stand alone option. It is included in the Ultimate Perfomance Package. I will agree you should be able to get the performance package without the carbon package.

the zr1 is badass but i will never pay that for a vette, used c6zs are getting cheaper these days, i agree with you guys though the z06 looks like the same damn car , and there isnt a really huge performance upgrade, there is but not enough to justify that price tag

Base Z06 + Magnetic suspension = 79k
Base Z06 + Z06 ultimate = 90k

Guess you're right(for some reason I thought the last time I tried it wouldn't let me), that still doesn't help the fact that you need to spend $15k to get all the go fast goodies. Ceramic brakes, performance traction management, extra cooling, PS cup tires, and lighter wheels all change the way it performs in a big way.
What I just noticed, and what makes this WAY worse, is that the CTS-V Coupe comes in pretty much fully loaded for $65k (minus $3,400 Recaro seats, $300 suede steering wheel and shifter, $700 sunroof, and $600 wood trim, so around $70k FULLY loaded). How are they getting away with $30K+ in options on Corvettes???

Because of the name and they know most people out there are willing to pay for it.

I'll agree that a used Z is a pretty good deal especially if you can find one for under 40K but it will most likely be a 06 or 07. I got my base model 08 for under 30K. I could have went with a Z but I wanted to build a boosted LS3.

I would have a hard time not picking up a lower mileage LS2 or LS3 C6, you can get those anywhere from the low 30's to high 20's all day with relatively low miles. I have heard many negative things about the LS7's and their durability, especially when it comes to adding any kind of power to them. Plus the Z06 really only has an advantage in terms of dollar to performance up until a certain point over the others. So, despite the appealing price of the used C6 Z's, I really would have to think hard about jumping into one versus when of the LS2's or LS3's.
