Good luck on your quest. Any details on the ride? Might be good to set up a sig, so that in posts people know what your ride is. Again, good luck man...............go kick some ass, lol. Eric L

What track are you going to in TX?

Out of curiosity, because I have a similar converter that I had behind my BBC, what does that 4600 stall flash to behind the LS? And what diameter is the converter, 8, 9, or 10 inch. Thanks. Eric L

Just got homefrom track 10.98 @ 123.49. 1/8 mile was 7.01@99.32 with only a1.602 sixty foot. Now time to get heads ported and get my compression up. That was evadable track and that converter is an8" it still goes to 4600 but just not a fast flash

Grats on the 10 slip....it should be pretty easy to shed some more weight out of that thing to maybe go some mid 10s. Better converter will help out alot to. ;)

Im going to change converters this week and I'm really thinking about spraying it because half the people at the track last night said there was no way I was not spraying it. They are just stuck in the old school stuff and don't have a clue what these motor will do. I ran old SBC. For years and I will never go back now.

I have to admit, for basically a stock LQ9 with some smaller chamber heads and a cam, it flys, lol. But to be honest, compared to Speedtiggers Buick that weighs 3700 + lbs, its about right. But still shocking. Thats what made me make the switch. I should easily be able to run mid 10s with the setup im building, and compared to my past motors its a REAL mild build.

Im in the same boat as you are with converters. I have a 10" and an 8". Im pretty sure the 8" is going to be WAY to tight and flash far to slow for this motor. So I have a feeling ill be throwing the 10 inch in first. And if it dosent work as well as I hope, at least ill have an efficent street converter until I change, lol. Again, congrats on the build.

Mine is lq4 with imported heads his is lq9 with ported heads but his definitely dragging more weight. Just changed converters going to get tires this week and try again.

That's unported not imported. I hate this phone

Yeah, but its cool. Imported heads sounds so exotic, lol. Eric L

Went back to track yesterday and backed up my 10.98 with a 10.95,10.97,10.99 .but I think I hurt something.my oil pressure is normally 38 at idle and 58 at 60the MPH now 32 at idle and 45 at 60

Good news about the runs, but I guess you'll be cutting the oil filter apart? to try diagnose it.....

What oil is used? Some break down faster than others and if you are spinning the hell out of it, it wears even faster.

Been running rotella 15w40 and was only turning it to 6800 so I don't know. Probably time to pull it and check every thing.

as long as the pressure is steady your likely fine.. when i spun a rod bearing the pressure was up and down like mad. Doubtful you hurt anything. With my turbo after 1500 miles the oil loses like 15 psi at both wot and idle. Goes from 75psi new to 60psi old. And before you go tearing your motor apart verify pressure with a manual gauge and check your filter for crap. I cut mine apart when i spun the rod bearing for fun.... lol ugly.

get the rotella out of there!!!
put regular oil in there and you will see a difference, they changed there formula for that stuff in the past few years and its not good at all, too much detergents in it.
I actually witnessed a motor lose oil pressure from 60psi at cruising down to about 20psi.
Drained it and put cheap conventional oil in it and it was back to normal...i have seen this happen with several motors where they lost alot of pressure using rotella!
Just run mobil 1 or anything other then that stuff.

Ill change it today and see what happens. Thanks for the info. I really want to bring it to the track one more time and try a 125 shot on it before I take it out.

I run mobil, castrol and valvoline, mobil only if synthetic.

I'm got the Valvoline racing 50w. If I make it home from work before dark tomorrow I will change it and look at my old filter.hopefully nothing's in it

OutrageousZ
03-19-2012, 09:30 PM
i'm sure it is the rotella and everything is fine.
The valvoline 50w racing oil really isn't needed in an engine like yours, it was mainly for old school motors with solid cams that needed the extra zinc in the oil, but i'm sure it couldn't hurt, one of the reasons so many people have used the rotella in past, but lately with the high detergents its no good.
I would say any synthetic oil would be your best bet
