Search camaro5...they talk about CAI's to death on their lol.

From what I think I remember they are not anything special and might be a bit behind the curve.

Cold Air Inductions CAI with ADM scoop is very good and one of the most popular. The latest jannetty independent dyno testing showed an 18rwhp increase with no tune with cold air inductions cai and adm scoop. 14rwhp without the scoop.

The Halltech is arguably a bit better with heat soak due to a plastic tube compared to metal with the cold air inductions. It made good power on the tests as well. Like I said...do some looking on C5.

The Halltech has a larger inlet tube, and a massive filter as well. The K&N is the same simple design, but the tube and filter are much smaller by comparison, therefore moving less air. It is still superior to the stock airbox and paper filter, just not one of the top performing intakes. A few other options to consider are, Roto-Fab, Vararam, and ADM.

does it make that much of a difference in hp between the two?

Honestly, proabably not. However, if your trying to squeeze out as much power as possible and don't mind paying extra, the more expensive intakes are worth looking at. Absolutely nothing wrong with K&N, other than a little too much oil on the filter element from the factory.

Like Ultra said, If you have the time, just check out Camaro5. Not the best forum for technical topics, but there are several detailed comparisons and dyno charts with no bias towards any particular brand.

Halltech is definitely your best option out of those two. Roto Fab is top notch also.

Stay away from any air intake with a Aluminum coated tube or any metal tube. Heat soak will be a problem with them.

From what I have read on here, Heat Soak only occurs when you are at a dead stop so either option would work for you.

I'm mostly interested in before/after track results. My CAI in my TBSS dropped the truck from 13.84@99 to 13.73@101, that was pretty solid. I'd like to see similar info on the 5th gens since I just got one.
