So I finally got my car out to the track today which was my first time ever. Got in three runs and their not as good as id like. First run it bogged starting off and the next two it spun all through first.

Maybe you just need more practice leaving and some tires.

^^yes I know for sure I do. Only thing that really concerned me was the trap as it seems pretty low. Especially since my car is lighter than the typical fourth gen. Also since my interior is kinda empty since Im waiting for the rest of it.

I think until you get it to leave good its gonna be difficult to really judge what its doing. I put in my converter and my car didn't pick up at all because now its spinning. Just get it to leave good and go from there. Maybe someone else can help? Usually when the 60' is off that much it kills the rest of the pass.

I see. Well all of mine were shit. Also its kinda weird how my speed isn't consistent from the 1/8 to 1/4 in each run. Anyways, any of you veterns have any good tips to pass down for launching or any other aspect?

What's the cub weight on your car? What gears are you running? What's the mileage on your engine?
Ever had this thing on the dyno? My first time to the strip my times were very consistent, 13.59, 13.62, and 13.57. But I have an auto, so they will usually be real close.

you need to find a happy median for launching rpms and chill out it looks like you were nervous... its only a run down a track dont sweat it, youll get another chance. to many people get nervous or worry about winning against the guy nexted to you.

3250s~for curb weight. With me it should be a tad under 3500. Stock fourth gen 3.42 gears and mileage should be around 115,000.
And bwk I was. First time running and I really wanted to do good so I gave it way to much throttle off the line and instead of backing off I shifted. I also didn't ease off the clutch, I dropped that bitch. Doesn't seem to smart now, at the time I thought it would only help and I thought the track was super sticky to prevent wheelspin. I thought wrong

Dumping the clutch does help, but only when you have a big sticky bias ply tire. It sounds like you are running on street tires though, street tires hate clutch dumps. A good "quick slip" is what you want.
Next time you go to the track get as many runs in as possible. Seat time in a stick car is very important.
Also might try posting this in the right section next time ;).

Haha thanks. Idk why it just dawned on me I was in the wrong section. I kept thinking dyno and track comparison and discussion. Oh well next time.
And yes street tires. stock iroc 16 rims wrapped in some kumho ecsta's. Well next week I hope to go again and will for sure get alot more runs in! So expect new times

3,250!? Dang that's light. I would think this car has a lot more potential than a 4th gen. My car weighed in at 3,440 lbs.

I figure stock itll be around 3400-3450s. Then take off around 100 for the aluminum motor. Then this is how the interior is and pretty much all that's in it atm. Stripped from the backseats back. It can't be that much weight but I figure somewhere around 75-100 for the newer dash, no spare tire, somewhat stripped interior and plastic gas tank

Yeah you gotta get outta the hole better...your 60' times are horrendous! LOL...just get you some nittos and practice launching a little and you will be low 13's maybe high 12's in that car as it sits. 3rd gens and LS motors go very good together on the strip. I knew a guy from lexington ky that had a gorgeous third gen with a cam only ls1 (tr 224 cam) that ran low 11's at a 121 mph...honestly cam only and boltons.

That is a high trap for what's done. Untouched heads? Any idea if it was stripped?

Nope...it was a full interior, car...paint was that dark jade metallic gray...gorgeous car! One of the cleanest I have seen, and a very nice and clean LS swap. Had a 12 bolt and et streets I believe, 6 speed cam and bolt on LS1. The car was very strong for what was done to it. the guy that owned it was a good guy and wasnt out to get anything, so I dont question the heads or anything. He was as surprised as anyone at how good the car ran. his name on kyhorsepower is jtmiller92 i believe. That car is long gone though.

What a shame that its gone. And gray on a third gen is such a sexy color.

you should be running a whole lot faster than that. also your mph is way down.

It wasnt just straight gray...it was that greenish gray color...not teal...but gorgeous! It is sad...he parted out the LS stuff and sold the roller.

Mxer, I know but im guessing its due to my inexperience. My guess is that it should be around 105-107ish. As mentioned my 60' is horrible which contributes me being so slow. And how I ran different mphs which im guessing is my shifting.
Any idea on what made him sell it?

Ouch, eady on the launch next time out. What size rear tire do u have? Also try and get some nitto 555 dr.. do not dump the clutch on street tires easy off the clutch then bang some gears. Your time will drop a shit load...

Something 245 on the stock iroc tires. And I hope to see some btr times next time I go!

You need some good tires and a 2step.. Then you might even get into the 12's.. Are you sure the motor is running up to par? Your mph seems pretty low for a 6speed car. Even though you are spinning you should run more mph than if you stick..

Two of the o2 sensors aren't in which I don't think would hurt my time as they aren't used when your at wot. Or at least I thought. Those were the only codes thrown when I last checked. And sometimes my exhaust smokes white after wot if I let it decelerate. I know I know its not a "good" sign, but I constantly check my fluids and neither my coolant goes low or oil looks bad, also have done a leakdown with "normal" #'s. So my guess is valve seals or to change the head gaskets as they may have a small break or the heads may have lifted. This hasn't started since sprayed (75 shot only and haven't even made it through a bottle yet). Sorry for that loooong list but I figured id get it out of the way.
Anyways, car seems to be performing fine. I also thought the mph was low for each run. I figured it was maybe something wrong then thought maybe it was my shifting.

Get it to hook. You won't get a good idea of the car's mph if you're spinning/bogging that bad. I've always lost several mph when my cars have spun badly.
