Question What gains w/SY3500 and 3.73's

I have the SY3500 in w/3.23's is it worth putting the 3.73's in or get some LT header with a Y pipe. Both with happen but which one first. Looking for better 60' times.

if you are looking for better 60' times put a good tire under that car. the SY series doesnt hit hard so it is a drag radial or et street at BEST. 3.73 wont give you much of any gain if any over your gear now. a better convertor is the key. a unit with a higher STR.

I gained .2 nd 2 mph switching to 3.73s from 3.23s when my car was stock...

I dont think you'll see much of a gain though, like gator says. $$ better spent elsewhere...

I totally get your point but I am already running on nitto drags. Thanks for your input guys. Anyone else with knowledge on this?

You don't need ET streets with a SY and 3.23s. Nittos are perfect for that combo. ET streets will actually slow you down with that converter.

3.73s are good for .1 when you have a converter. I'd keep the 3.23s and go for the L-T.

i gained 6+ tenths and nearly 2mph after my TC & header install hitting the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift...if i were to bump up to 3.73's from my current 2.73's id probably be looking at closer to 8 tenths gain and probably more mph as well.

yah the tci ssf 3500 and 3.42 (with my mods) pushes my nitto's to the limit at the strip. need et's i guess.

remember the 3.73 (and 4.10) are ultimately weaker than the lower gears.

just take a look at a 3.73/4.10 and your 3.23 and you'll understand.

for the little gains you might blow the 10 bolt if you hit too hard. I'll take a 10th or two from a beefier gear, and make up the power in other ways..

make sense?

I did my gears before my converter, gears were worth .15, converter was worth .12. My mph went down after the gears too because I had my rev limiter and shift points raised to the point where I was finishing the 1/4 at about 6500 rpms in 2nd with my old 2.73's.

So, you only gained .27 with a converter and gears? Might want to get that checked out.

Hey 99Freeze and 00a4z28
What are your 60fts and 1/4 with the SY3500?

By the way I would go with the LT and Y-pipe, pick up some power and rumble too.

Most of my testing was done with a g-tech, but my one trip to E-town I got a 1.9 60, 12.194 at 115, I babied that launch too much though. 2nd run I got too agressive and spun my @xx off, 2.2 60 12.65 @ 115 almost 116. I had to let completely off the gas on that run. Btw I had my g-tech on to check accuracy, it said 12.16 and 12.56, within a tenth both times and less accurate when you lose traction. I think if I could have got my launch down I think I could have gone 1.7x but I don't think the converter has any more in it than that. I won't have any new numbers anytime soon due to chronic transmission failure; I'm saving for an FLP level IV now.

You need a new Y-pipe with headers. The factory pipes are designed to work with the stock manifold.

Well, I am down here in the south were it can be 99 degrees on Chrismas day. With a hot a$$ day and poor track prep I got a best of 1.9 60'. If I could get a 1.7 the world would be a better place. That's with 3.23's.
