Question Front wheels caked in brake dust...always.

Is this normal or is this suggestive of something. I'm thinking it's telling me something. Warped rotors? Need of better pads?? Your input is appreciated.

TIA,
Justin

I switched to EBC Greenstuff Pads. Performance is great and almost NO brake dust. I think they were one of the best mods I did!

How bad is it after the wheels are cleaned? What pads are you using?

One of the pins on the caliper had a little rust so when I pressed the brakes and compressed the pads, the top portion of one pad was always barely touching the disc but just enough to get the rims dirty within 40 miles of driving.

I had to take the pin out and use a little metal polish and havent had an issue since.

Awesome guys thanks for all your responses. I'll defintely check into that pin. It has to be something besides just pads for the simple fact that I can clean them off with some soap and water and have them looking decent and within a few days they are already browning in color. I still want to think that I have some messed up rotors though. What are the symptoms of that? I have wheel shake when the brake is pressed at highway speeds. I know part of this is because my tires...but it still done it pretty bad even after have the tires balanced. I'm thinking I have a combo problem

Thanks,
Justin

How many times have you changed the rotors? If none, then its definately warped rotors.

yeah I meant to comment on that in my last post. I'm still running stock equipment. If you guys do believe it's the rotor then that will soon change . I'm thinking I want to put the Z06 gear and some bigger than stock powerslots on. I know you guys were mentioning some pads earlier to. VGX, Raybestos...what about hawk? Isn't that a brand and if so are they ok? Anyway, thanks for listening and all of your help.

Ok, so I finally got around to pulling the wheels and checking out my braking system. Didn't really see anything out of the ordinary. I did think of some questions though. The pads just sit in there? They don't adhere to anything? As is, the pads are always on the rotor. That's how it's supposed to be? Pads look to be brand new though. I think I remember them saying something about having new brakes put on when i purchased the car. One more question. How tight do you guys tighten down the bolts on the caliper mounting brackets?

TIA,
Justin
