Default Correct head gasket for LS6 heads on 2000 LS1 block

I've read there were side specific head gaskets on LS1s through 2000 which were graphite. Were the gaskets side specific due to the gasket design or the block design? Also can I upgrade to a GM MLS gasket and if so what is/are the part numbers?

If you are using ls6 heads you are good to go. It applies to heads not blocks. Just buy some GM MLS and don't look back. You can go on TSP or SDPC and find them on their website...
