Drag Racing Tech - Motor Mounts....Solid or Poly?

Which motor mounts are everyone running and what are the benefits of solid mounts?......
The car is a track car that does see some street time but that's not important.....It has a poly trans mount and the suspension is all rod ends so comfort isn't a big concern

i have the motorvative solid mounts, poly trans.

Also I read that the Spohn solid mounts raise the engine up a little....why is that?

One thing to keep in mind if you have solid mounts you may have to undo them to get the transmission out. With the poly mounts there is just enough flex to wiggle the trans out.

I have had both,I had the UMI solid mounts same height as the polys.They fit perfect didnt rasie it up the engine at all that i noticed.

Ive removed them without taking the mounts off no problem...but if it was removed on the ground I can see how having some wiggle room would be helpful.

Im not really concerned about getting the trans out. I like the design over the others especially the 10lb weight saving but I'm just concerned with the extra height and my exhaust hitting

Really, what transmissions? There is no way I could remove / install my t56 with out angling the engine a decent amount. You wouldn't be able to get the rear end of the transmission up high enough with out hitting the tunnel to slide it in.

th400...Ive done a few t56 swaps as well(stock & poly only)did you take your tranny out completely intact?

No I unbolt it from the bell housing first, I've done it several times with poly mounts but don't see it possible with solid mounts.

I have done it a couple of times on a friends car with solids. 5 foot 1/2 drive extension with a 3/8 head and a Snap-on swivel impact socket. That extension has saved my ass in some tight spots.

Just an update for future people who search.....I went with the Spohn Solid mounts and love them. The exhaust doesn't bang the floor anymore and the car feels solid, money well spent!

I noticed my poly were heavy, But soilds are really 10pounds lighter???

Its not that the polys are heavy, the factory pedastals and clam shells are...

I wonder what just the stock clam shell metal with the poly in them weights???

So is the only gain weight?

mine were 8.8lbs lighter for the pair going from rubber mounts to spohn solids

I did Poly and love em'

I have the poly on poly engine/trans and it works great. Been thinking of going solid. Anybody have a good comparison? I know everyone's idea of good or bad vibrations are different but help me out here!?? :lurk:

According to my scale the Spohn Solid stand(part #992) weights 4.35lbs each and my stock stand/rubber mount/clamshell/bolt weights 8.77lbs each
