Erratic Idle with 5.3L retrofit.
Erratic Idle with 5.3L retrofit.
Put a 5.3L into wife’s 1967 Camaro with a manual transmission. I used a Painless Performance wiring harness complete with a Painless computer. A note that came with the wiring harness and computer stated I may have high idle issues since no 5.3L ever came with a standard transmission, so they flashed the computer to be the 4.8L but bumped the CIDs to be a 5.3L.
Trans is a Keisler TKO 500 and has provision for VSS, which I do not have connected to computer! If I need to hook it up do I have to worry about having hte computer tuned for the exact "pulses" from the VSS?
I'm using the manual speedo capability of the trans.
Issue: Wife reports that the car idle so high that the car will run 35 mph with her foot off the gas pedal, and other times it idles so low that she is afraid it will die.
Do I need to take it to someone to tweek the computer?
