Default Rear tire rub

I just changed the front and rear struts on my 2006 Chevy Impala SS that already had the stock wheels and stock 235/50/18 on it. The struts are KYB GR-2 struts. I changed the front and rear strut mounts and used anti pogo washers on them. After everything was put back together and took it for a ride the rear tires are barely touching the bottom of the cup where the spring sits on both sides and making a rubbing noise. We rechecked everything and everything seems fine. I would like to know if they might be the wrong struts in the rear, do I need tire spacers now to bring it out a 1/4 inch so they don't touch, or go the route I was going to do and put 255/45/18 on it this week and see what happens. Also they are not touching the tube of the strut. Plenty of room there. Suggestions are welcome.

no I haven't. I was going to get the alignment when I get the 255/45/18. That would be great news if its just the camber making it do that. baltsk8er69 what do you mean ls?

theres two struts for the impala, the ones for the ls and lt with 16 and 17 inch rims and the other set is for the ltz and ss with the 18 inch rims. They wont touch because of camber.

The W body Store sold me the struts and told me those were the right ones for my car. I know that the SS has different struts because of the wheels.

If your Camber was the culprit your tires would be face down. It's not unheard of for a company to send you the wrong product.

Yes I know that. The bad thing is that I even asked the dealership whats the difference in all the struts as well as various other companies and only thing they said was MAYBE a difference in strut travel. I was told by W Body store and ZZP that its all the same struts and noone want to talk to you by phone only in e mail.

Buy them and use them.

Or search in this section to learn some more about them... I think someone had an issue getting the alignment set and had to grind out the strut holes, but they may have purchased the wrong struts.

It's not camber for Christ sake. If it were camber in order for the inside of the tire to touch, the face of the rim would be so far out out of the well it would be at a large angle. Once again its not camber. Focus on the model of struts that sold you...o yeah its not camber.

255/45/18s will fit up front but not in back if your lowered, similarly height 245/35-20s dont fit either without negative camber...it absolutely could be negative camber in this case, my 245/35-20s (shorter than stock) rubbed on the strut with -3 degrees on both sides and if he didn't do an alignment yet its very possible they could be off by that much

does sound like its the wrong strut tho...Wbody store sells a few different kinds you might have the 97-03 GP struts, which sounds more likely because they don't sell the LS and LT trim struts

I second that. I had 255s in the back while lowered, would always get a rub. Switched to 235s and never been better.

He has stock tires still...not camber. It would take 10+ degrees of camber to close a .5 inch gap over 7.5 inches. Are you riding on the face of your rim?

I still have the stock 18" tires. 235/50/18. The struts part number I believe is 339228. Wbodystore told me it was the right struts. KYB said it wqs the right struts. Several other places said its the right struts. The CUP of the strut barely touches the INSIDE part of the inner tire tread. The place I am taking it to said the 255/45/18 will for and be lower than the ones I have on the car also was told the bolts that hold the strut to the spindle can have a smaller diameter bolt to whistling the height of the strut.

The new tires will result in a 1.6 mm drop in tire height. Is that enough to clear?
