Default need cam advice...

I plan on dropping a cam in my ls1 as well as the correct springs/pushrods and ls7 lifters...

my mods are or will intake... full exhaust... and a ls6 intake... as well as a p&p TB...

now heres my issue... my heads are 853 castings... and from my readings they arnt the cats meow when it comes to ls1 heads, theyalso have 2.08/1.64 valves... Not my doing...

Will these heads hold me back allot or just like 10-15hp...lol

and im leaning towards the tr224 but im not exactly sure...

any suggestions or advice... is welcome...

thanks guys...

Hello, if i where you i would try to find a set of p&p 243 which you can get cheap, or go to texas speed and look at some of theres. They also sell heads and cam combos. A good 5.3 head or ls6 heads will be good. I would go with a 228/228 112 lsa for the 243 heads and would go a bit bigger if you got bigger heads. That is my opinoin about it. I just sold my prc 215's for 1800 so you can get good heads cheap. I would call texas speed and talk to them.(they arent open today). I would also call tony mamo. He does heads and is very good at what he does maybe the best. He doesnt do cams but pat g does custom grind cams and are very good from what i have read. How much horsepower are you looking for realisticlly? Also is this a dd or a weekend warrior?

just getting time to get back on... working 6 and half days a week blows... lol

im planing on this being a DD but also long cruise vehicle... realistically near 400hp or just over is what i want... but if i have to spend 2k on heads to get it then ill settle for as close as possible... i got a whole 1600$ wrapped up in the car total... lol

if you watch the used parts section long enough you will snag a ls6 intake for $300.you can get a used weiand or bbk intake for $300.look for some used 243/799 heads for $400.you can make 390-400 hp with a tr224 cam

I have an Ls6 intake for sale. PM me if interested.

I would look into finding a set of 317 heads that you can get for next to nothing, sending them to AI and they will take care of the rest. 317's can be welded to achieve correct combustion chamber for $200, and they reshape the combustion chamber and do their port work. Good luck finding a set of 243's or 799's for under $375 on this forum.
