Default HP tuner and the need for a Vin#?

Through some of my reading I have read that you need the Vin# from the car you are tunning, before you can change anything in the program, IS this correct, and is there a way around this? I am finishing a LS2 swap from a 2008 SS Trail Blazer into a 74 Corvette, I have no Ideal what the vin# is/was from the Trail Blazer. Will the lack of a Vin# be a problem?

I'm looking to by a tuner program so I can change the Vats and to do a live scan of the motor to see why the motor is not firing. I will also hopefully learn how to tune the LS as time goes on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
