Default Oil pan gasket leak

Car has been leaking a lot of oil lately from what looks like the oil pan gasket. Anyone know of a decent shop or someone that can change the gasket? It's a lot of work and don't know if my mechanic can do the job. Thanks

Any shop should be able to do it, its alot of work though. You need to drop the k member some to get the pan out, and you need to pull it all the way out if its never been replaced because they are riveted to the pan. Also its best to use the GM gasket, its worth the extra few bucks.

I had the same issue in my Durango, although the leak was minor.

To do the job, I would have to drop the front end (AWD/4WD). Dodge does not use a gasket on their oil pans, they use a gasket maker product. I sealed it with RTV Ultra Black.

I cleaned off the outside of pan where I could tell the leak was coming from, scraped off excess gasket, applied the RTV black in the area where the leak was, smoothed it with putty knife to get in between, let it sit overnight. Very ghetto, but it has held for 30k+ miles.

Food for thought.

Where on the oil pan is it leaking from? Can you post pics? Make sure it is the oil pan before you spend your money and that wasn't the real issue.

I agree with haighter, I would make sure it is the pan gasket first. But to clear things up, you don't have to drop the K-member to get the oil pan off, I JUST took my pan off of my car about 2 weeks ago, and all I did was take off the intake manifold, and take off the motor mounts, and then I raised the engine until it touched the body, then I finag-led it off. I guess it wasnt TOO bad, but it still kinda sucked. I did it all on jackstands in my garage.

I have seen it when someone changes a cam and miss aligns the timing covers. They bolt up the front bolts first vs the small lower bolts on the front or rear cover and it NEVER gets a proper seal on the pan. Doesn't matter how much RTV you use. Also make sure you don't crack the pan because you tightened the side ones first vs the lower ones and go to tq them down.
