Mobil 1 or Royal Purple

Mobil 1 or Royal Purple What do you guys prefer for the ls1. I've always used Mobil 1 full synthetic and was thinking of switching to royal purple but have had a couple people tell me royal purple is hard on a street car. I find that hard to believe. Any opinions?

I too have always used Mobil 1, but seem to be hearing more and more that Royal Purple is the way to go.
Not sure if its true, or just good marketing by Royal Purple LOL

I dont know about royal purple but on my brothers 02 ls1 only mobil 1 was used. He took it apart for a cam swap with 8x,xxx miles and there was not a hint of sludge and it had a gold tint to the engine.

I use whatever full synthetic is on sale and stock up on it. 325,000 miles later my 4.8L is still running strong. Sometimes it's Mobile 1, sometimes Pennzoil, sometimes Valvoline.

I have been using Mobil 1 5-30 for the 8 years I have had my 02. I have less than 34k on it and never had it apart to see how clean things are.
All I can say is I have had no problems and don't use any oil.

When you ask a question like this on almost any car forum all your replies will be based on marketing marketing marketing and a heaping pile of bullshit.
Doesn't have to be that way it is fairly cheap to have the wear metal content of used oil measured and the oils properties measured so you can get a MEASURED result of how it works.
I specify look for LS because an oil can be a quality product but just not work great in a particular application.

Do some searches, Royal Purple has GREAT marketing but falls short on actual oil tests. Look into Amsoil if you are looking for some of the absolute best oil you can buy. For the ls1 I would suggest Amsoil European formula 5w-40

I've use Mobil 1 5w-30 but was thinking about switching to 10w-30 to reduce the piston slap that these motors are known for and about all of them do this. What do you guys think, 5w-30 or 10w-30

BTW I liked amsoil so much that I became an authorized amsoil dealer and distribute to all my car buds and they all love it too!

Amsoil is a great product...no doubt about it. I use it exclusively in my transmissions, diffs, transfer cases, etc. For my motors, Mobil 1 (except the tow rig...rotella t). Never had an issue, and I used to run this in my Audi too which are problematic to say the least with sludge. Mobil 1 is just easier to get for me.

Mobil 1 0W40 has a great additive package and is always on sale for ~$30 for 5 quarts w/Mobil 1 filter. Amsoil, Royal Purple, Red Line are stupid expensive and not worth it in my opinion.
