Gears & Axles - Lightweight ring & pinion for 9"

My Richmonds in my 9" are too loud for my likings. My car is a street car and I'm on the hunt for a quieter gear. I have my mind set on Yukon gears. I hear nothing but praise about them regarding noise, setup, and strength. My question is, does anyone here run a lightweight gear, and is it worth using? I have found standard Yukon 4.11 gears for a 9" for $179 and the lightweight gears for $203, so it seems like a no brainer for the extra $25ish for lighter gears. Even being lightened, I have no foresight of breaking them, but how possible is it? Who here runs lightweight gears? I haven't been able to find much info on here, or people using them

I have Yukon gears & they are quiet, very happy with them. They are not the lightweight ones, really how much lighter could you make them? To me, lighter gears=weaker. For the weight savings youre gonna get it wouldnt be worth it. Thats why its hard for you to find someone that has them. :D

Well the weight is removed from the backside of the ring, and gears always fail at the teeth, so it seems like they "should" be fine. $25 isn't bad for less rotational mass, people pay much more for much less weight savings.

Do you have ANY whine with the Yukons?

It wont effect strength, I believe you can remove two to three lbs out of the gear which is significant in rotating weight. If your going for a max effort type stuff I would say do it. My next set of gears will be lighten.

i was in the same boat as you,my richmonds were real loud,and i wanted yukons but they were sold out everywhere,so i couldnt get a set,and ended up with a 4.11 us gear.They are very nice,very slight whine,cant hear it with the windows down or the radio on mid volume.I wish i had the yukons though cuz it would probably be silent

we just put in regular 4.56 yukons in my MWCfab9 a few months back & i only have 2 heat cycles on them & so far so good....

they almost got there 3rd heat cycle today.....maybe tomorrow.

we also went with the yukon thru bolt case....wow what a beefy piece after breaking my strange case & richmond gear.

Anyone else have some input on the lightweight gears? I'm still doing some thinking on these gears. I am pretty set on the $200 Yukon Lightweight 4.11s
