LM1 to MagnaMouth Install, Pics
Well, I finally found a guy that could TIG, and she's all done!
When all this started I was SO TIRED of the rasp, or machine gun RAP, as I call it, so I posted a thread about LM1 modifications / opinions. To all who contributed, I appreciate all your feedback and suggestions.
I also took the time to modify my TSP ORY and have a true 3" exit welded on. All parts are 304SS, all stainless welds. What I started with, an expanded 3" coupling, a 3.5 - 3" reducer for the TSP merge, and a MagnaPack 14419.
And the MagnaPack
After literally 6 hours of measuring 20x, scribing lines and contours on a sheet of cardboard, and scribing lines on the parts themselves, I finally began cutting the LM1 apart.
My situation was a bit different than most b/c I had an original SLP LoudMouth 1, the one that was completely welded from SLP directly. You talk about a BITCH to get all the measurements correct!
On to the finished pics!
Corrected TSP Merge
Expanded 3" coupling welded to screwy pipe off muffler that connects to Y merge
Mated together
The MagnaPack Tig'd in place
And reinstalled
So, I didn't leave anyone hanging. I hate it when people post threads, get advice and help, but NEVER post results. Well, here they are. All the tigs only cost me 70 bucks, which was HALF of what I was quoted from others. The muffler was 60ish shipped from Advance, and the coupling and reducer was just over 25 shipped from Columbia River Madrel Bends.
Thanks again guys for all the advice.

Thanks, Aaron!
One more thing i want to mention. I know everyone talks about the Flowmaster Merge, how good it scavenges and all.... Well, I did the "cigarette" test when I had the complete Y off the car.
I hhoked up my cleaning nozzle to the end of my compressor (nozzle regulated at 30psi, per OSHA requirements) and blew down one leg of the Y, while holding a lit cigarette at the opening of the other leg.
Anyone wanna guess what happened?
It sucked the smoke right down the other leg. I wish I had it on video, but I was alone and only have 2 hands.
This isn't to take away from the FM merge, but I'm pretty damned convinced the TSP does just as good a job for scavenging and creating vacuum to expell gasses from the other cylinder bank.
Just wanted to throw that out there.

Dude, it sounds now, if that makes any sense.
I can't believe I used to like the LT's, ORY, and LM1 at idle. This MagnaPack blows it away. I think I finally understand what tone really is. It has that, and a good amount of bass, to my surprise. There's still a *hint* of rasp, which I expected with the ORY, but it's totally bearable, and nowhere NEAR what it used to be like.
As far as the muffler down lower, that's really the only place it would fit. I kept the same measurement, weld to weld, from the old resonator, then matched it to the MagnaPack, cutting off the slip-fit connections on the Magna.
I actually gained almost an inch in ground clearence. The resonator used to be the lowest part of the whole system.

The volume isn't so "out there" any more. It's still loud, but it has BASS now which is EXACTLY what I wanted. It has more of a rumble to it. I love it!
After hearing this muffler in person now, I've completely made up my mind what mufflers I'm running when I do finally make the switch to duals.
