Default Gas Mileage.

Well, my car gets 220 to a tank with highway driving. I have a 13 gallon tank i think. I have the 6 speed. That seems like SHITTY GAS MILEAGE TO ME! because my buddy has a 99 with a 6 speed and he gets 260-280 to a tank. what kind of **** is THIS!? What could the culprit be?

16.9 to the gallon...
yup thats alittle off...
well first thing to look at is pm stuff(preventitive maitnance)
spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, gear oil, differantial oil, air filter... none of these should have more then 30,000 miles on them(10,000 for me)
if none of that helps you need to look at how you drive...
is it 220 at 60 mph in 6th with the cruize control on?
or 220 running hard thru the gears staying in 5th at 60 so you can hear your exhast?
note.. the second one does not help gas milage...
if none of that helps... take it to a dyno and have your a/f graphed.... might be something wronge in the tune...

hope that helps

I'm lucky if I get 175. The traffic here in Houston sucks bad and driving conditions change frequently. But I do get on it and wind em out whenever I can, which is like every day with every chance I get. I think I could probably squeeze 250 but that would be total grandma driving and reconnecting the CAGS--hehehee. You should see how everyone putts around in these SS and WS6 's and Vettes around here. No one wants to race and they look at you like your some kinda weirdo wanting to race their SS, C5, or ZO6. They are the ones getting all the MPG's--LOL I think they are worried about the high gas prices or something--$1.75 for 93 octane here but who cares. A sports car should be fun and driven accordingly. It's not fun when you are always worried about how many MPT you get. At least it wouldn't be for me.

You think $1.75 for 93 is high? Try $2.09 here on L.I. My car barely gets 200 to a tank. I also have alot of stuff done to my car too. That's why I drive a Honda everyday to work.

Your right foot :p

When I moved from San Diego to the Midwest my tanks went from 180 to 220 miles to 240-260 a tank. Now that I'm back in So Cal it's dropped again.

Oh, and I found a great price on premium 91 octane today (no kidding) at $2.35. Not joking at all

Never gotten better than 220. I average about 200. Just what you have to expect with sports car. It beats driving a civic!

ohhiitznik I see you have a 98 f-body. If I am not mistaken the 98s have a smaller metal gas tank and the 99s and up got the bigger plastic gas tank. So your friend is probably getting the same gas mileage as you but he has a bigger tank so he goes further. Like I said I'm not sure but I think this is true. Do a search on tank or something to confirm. There was a thread on here about the difference between all the F-bodys. That thread is very informative.

Another thing. I got my spark plugs changed and got worse gas mileage. Reason why is before the change I had a bad hessitation so I didn't get on it at all. After I got them changed I drive it a little harder but not that much. I use to get about 20-22mpg now I get 18-20mpg. I also have 4.10 gears.

How many gallons are you actually putting in the tank when you've went 220 miles?

I think the 99's got the bigger/lighter gas tank.

98's have 15.5 gallon tanks, 99's and up have the 16.8 gallon tanks, not sure if one is plastic or metal or what not.

I get around 280-300 per tank with city/hwy driving mix and at least 2 WOT runs per tank.

I went on a road trip a couple of weekends ago, all interstate with speeds of 70-90mph, and I got 330-340 miles to the tank.

With the exception of the WOT runs, I pretty much drive like a grandma.

I was getting around 230 miles per tank (2000 Z28 M6) before I did a maintenance run a few weeks back. I changed out plugs (NGK TR55's), plug wires (Taylor 10.4mm), PCV valve, fuel filter, and did an oil change. Since then, I get between 245 and 285 on a tank.
