Default which head bolts

Have a 371 iron using 243's milled.010. Compression i was told would be 11.3 to 1. Would stock gm bolts be alright on this setup? Or should i go w/the arp's. Tryin to conserve where i can n thats $100 difference just in the head bolts.

The ARP's are reusable and worth the extra $ in my opinion

So theyre reusable even after stretching. Not using studs!

I think it really depends on if youre going to remove the heads again as the ARP bolts are re-usable.

Go with the ARPs and use their assembly lube. No stupid degrees after torqueing

So no tq angle on the arps? Just tq down in sequence and roll in? Whats the tq specs on the arp pro series? I know they're different than stock bolts. Also my machinist told me to tq my arp rod bolts to 40foot lbs. This correct? Stock lq9 rods.

Yup, the ARPs have an actual torque measurement, not the stretch like the GM bolts. Also, like was stated, they are re-usable, which is a huge benefit. I cant comment on the torque specs. They will most likely come with the head bolts though.

I have been thinking about the head bolts. Will a higher torque ARP bolt have ill effects on the aluminum block?

The ARP rod bolts actually should be tightened and measured using a rod bolt stretch gauge but with My ARP sportsman rod bolts I added to the torque until I detected a little stretch which was at 58 lb./ft . And in a thread in this section a few weeks back a person said that to torque without measuring length You torqued them to 75lb./ft. . Personally I would'nt go that high on those bolts and also the rods need to be honed bringing them round again . As far as the head bolts ,,,,,,yes ARP's probably will have more clamping force and You may have a bolt hole or 2 strip out and will need to be repaired ,,,,,,,,,no milling won't be a problem for bolt length ,,,,,,,,,,,,for a torque spec on ARP's head bolts ,,,,,I don't know exactly but they would be higher than the figure You mentioned ,,,,,,,,more like 70-80lb./ft. ,,,, specs will be provided with the bolts.

The 40 foot lbs was on the rod bolts using the arps and yes theyve been honed back true. Just need to make sure the 40 lbs was correct.

80ft lbs will suck the threads out the block
