Pontiac GTO 2004-2006 - SvedeSpeed OTRCAI

I currently have the k&n CAI and i'm pretty sure its causing a few issues that I have read about (slight miss at idle, hard shifts from 1st to 2nd). The car only has 35k on it and the k&n was put on before I bought it. I checked all connections and the filter looks really clean so i'm going to clean the MAF later today in case oil got on it, but i'm thinking of just selling it and buying the SvedeSpeed OTRCAI. I've read nothing but great things about it, but i haven't heard any info about it and rain....especially heavy rain. Can anybody vouch for it not having any issues? This is my DD so it might be driving in rain once in a while.....thanks!!!!!!

Answered your PM. The intake has no issues with rain. Puddles over 2 feet deep might be a problem :)

Never had a problem with mine in the rain. You will love the intake.
No issues in the rain here either

Well, I called spencer over at westcoastspeed and ordered the SvedeSpeed OTRCAI. He was saying that K&N is back ordered on the filter, but wouldn't charge me for the filter if I could find one elsewhere. I found a couple for sale on ebay, so I hope I he can get me the intake soon because i'm dying to get it installed:D

What size of filter does it take? Could you PM me the filter you bought? I am also waiting for a Svede I ordered...

Yup im in the same boat i ordered maybe three weeks to a month ago they told me it would ship on the 8th of this month so i called on the 16th asking them what was the deal . There reponse was k&n filter on back order ? So i asked any idea when? They said i have no idea sorry i know its a shitty answer but that's all i got.

wow. if id known this before i ordered it i probably wouldnt have ordered one. i absolutley hate waiting on parts to show up. if i buy something i want it now lol.

^^^ Yes if i knew this was the case i wouldnt have spent the money! So you spend 600 bucks and get your part 6 to 8 months later ?

well i wouldnt order anything from ebay or anywhere else for that matter. i called several places and they all drop ship. meaning they place your order to k and n for you and dont actually stock filters. looks like we are all screwed into waiting. well im thinking ill be asking for a refund because with the money tied up in this intake, i could buy my direct port kit ive been wanting to get. the varraram intake has been working great and im sure it will continue to

Here's the email I got regarding the status-
The current wait time would be about 2 weeks if it weren't for K&N being out of stock on the air filter that we use. I've bought every filter that they currently have in the country and have a bunch more on order with them. I've also started another filter supplier off on a project to make a custom filter to avoid this situation in the future. K&N has been telling me 2-4 weeks for them to arrive in the US from England. My other supplier thinks they may be up and running in as little as 5 weeks. So we've got two paths to a solution and hopefully K&N will come through sooner, rather than later.

That's crazy how they told you it was coming from England when they told me that k&n is only 40 minutes up the road from them ????

Found this on the K&N website... Maybe this particular size is only made at their UK facility, I have no idea.
K&N's headquarters and primary manufacturing facility is located in Riverside, California. In addition to this facility, K&N also operates a manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom that primarily serves the European market.

I guess I'm just upset at the fact he told me oh I'm going to hurry this out to you and you should have it by 3rd week of march. I just think it would have been better customer service to just shoot me straight and tell me yeah you are a few month outi still would have placed the order , but at least I wouldn't have been eating in it .

I do believe he said it was the 33-2522 filter. They sure did take the money out of my checking account in a hurry. lol I wanted the relocated IAT sensor, but I think i'm going to call spencer on monday and cancel my order. I'll just go with the varraram intake. It looks a little cheaper in quality but i'm not going to wait 3 months seeing all you guys are ahead of me. I want this crappy K&N out of my car asap....now on to getting this turn sigal issue fixed......

03-23-2012, 08:20 PM
33-2522 is the correct filter. Its for a Triumph TR-7 and some other european stuff... I see there are some on Amazon... are they actually in stock? or are they just drop ship deals where you wont know they are sold out until you place an order?

^^ yes ebay and amozon drop ship. they are not in stock. i called several places today with the same answer. out of stock in the us. i tried to order from the uk site for k&n and you cant have them shipped to the us. they show to be in stock in uk though. the filter is made in the uk for thr triumphs

So is the Vararam ok to go with? I just want something that gets better air flow than the K&N and i like the idea of it pulling outside air in like the WS6's do.
svede1212
03-24-2012, 08:33 AM
I'm not directly involved with the intake altho I designed it. The filter is made in the UK K&N factory and they have been very spotty about supply even though there has been demand. Back when I was hand making the intake I ran into the same problem and every supplier would just have them dropped shipped from K&N so when they were out everybody was out. The last I talked to Spencer at WCS he said that Green Filter was tooling up to make the same filter and once up they could supply on demand. Screw K&N.
OP, you didn't say what year GTO you have., The Vararam is only made for the LS2 goat. Good luck with whatever you go with.

Think its Legit???

I found a filter so I talked to Spencer and told him to send out my intake without the filter. He said it might possibly go out next week sometime

04-13-2012, 02:36 PM
So i took someones idea called autozone they had the filter to me within 1 business day. I spoke to Spencer a few days before told him what was going on he said he would credit me back for the filter i said no,just rush me out the intake a week later i still dont have it!!!! starting to get a bit upset because he said that it was going out that day 4/5/12 which i guess did not happen.

I emailed him this week and he said he wasn't going to ship mine till next week because he is going to be gone Thursday and Friday (yesterday and today). He said the intakes are already made. I would think since they are pretty spendy units he would want to get them to the customers as quickly as possible.

^^^^^ Right,if you tell me your gonna send it off that day and have it rushed out thats what im expecting.

Svede it worth the wait, kinda like if you waited till your wedding night ;)
FWIW I have a CF Banshee hood with part of the underside dremeled so the nostrils are functional, you can see the top of the filter through the openings and I've never had any issues in the rain...

^^. I'm running the vararam and have my hood cut out underneath too. You can literally here the air being sucked in the good openings while sitting still. I have iat's in the low numbers because I have plenty of cool air coming in. But here is the problem with this. After about 20 or 25 mph air starts to follow the curve of the hood and no longer enters the scoops creating a low pressure area. Air then only enters through the front bumper grills and the crack where the hoods meets the bumper.
I personally feel the biggest improvement is in the iat sensor that is recommended to upgrade to when purchasing the svede intake. It changes temps quicker and reacts faster. I'd be willing to bet when iat's are compared between the vararam and svede using this sensor there is not any difference that results in performance gains or losses.
I'll post test results if I ever get a svede intake that I ordered over a month ago now. I got my tuner on board to help. We will test in real world and at an 1/8 th mile drag strip.

Well I looked in the autozone website and found the filter this intake requires. I got an email saying it has shipped and will be at my door Friday. Hopefully i will be able to get the intake sent to me without a filter.
