New LS1 Owners - Newbie Tech - Difference after tune...

Sent out my ECU to FROST yesterday to get tuned. Will i feel a noticable difference in my car with my mods when i get my ECU back?

Depends on where you start. Most will clean up the file, and TQ will increase and a small bump in HP. In a vaccume, if someone modded your PCM, would you notice a difference?? Not sure, maybe some throttle response and driveability quirks but in the end its more about being safe and making sure the car is running right.

Also, take it to a dyno to verify it is running safe, and see what your HP/TQ #'s are.

Well with that cam yeah there's gonna be a huge difference if your still on the stock tune. Most people advise, and i would personally get a local dyno tune for anything more than bolt ons, however i've heard nothing but good things about frost and he can get pretty close. I'm sending mine in to him this week actually. I'm pretty sure you will notice a difference.

$150 for bolts on for a mail order tune, and $200 for internal mods

Should be a pretty noticeable difference, I would have spent the extra money on an actual live dyno tune however with the cam.

No offense to any mailorder tuners, I'm sure they do good work, but I would not trust such a tune on a cammed car. As basic as that cam is, there's no way to know how the engine will respond. And without verifying the tune with a wb and log afterwards, you never really know if the tune is safe.

If you're deadset on getting a mailorder tune, at least find someone local to you to scan your car afterwards and make sure your fueling is correct and you have no knock.

Like said Dyno tuning with a competent tuner can also take things into consideration such as driveability. Some guys out there run EFILive and they have a neat scan tool that logs and the tuner can make adjustements and not even be there. There are alternatives.

I have had my own personal exp. with overly rich mail order tunes which lead to bearing damage back in the day so it's ultimately up to the owner to verify work done.

Last note, I would feel fine for the most part on a bolt on, cammed, or heads/cam tune. Maybe even Nitrous since its actually taking out some timing, but when you get into FI, I would think its time for more hands on.

honestly i dont know what % it is. my buddy helping me put my cam in broke the factory one with the pulley puller, so he gave me his old UD pulley. alls i know is it was deffinitly smaller lol

i'd say its worth it if you have the money to buy a better one since your going to be removing it anyways when you do the cam swap!
