Paint & Body Work - Clearcoat advice needed

Whats a good clearcoat to use on valve covers? I have some polished covers coming in and want to clear them, so I dont have to constantly polish them.

Don't they sell engine paint in clear? I think they do so I would say a good engine clear paint would work. good luck!

Thats what I was thinking, I have some VHT clearcoat that is supposed to be good up to 2000 degrees. I just dont want it to come out looking yellowish in a couple weeks/months.

Your main concern should be adhesion. Trying to get a clear to stick to a polished surface without any mechanical or chemical adhesion is tricky. With that said I have had good luck with shooting House of kolors AP-01 adhesion promoter and then follow it up with two coats of their UC-35 Clear. Unfortunately you cant buy these in small quanitys and both need to be sprayed with a paint gun.

A gun and compressor is not an issue, I have both. How well does the clear hold up to engine temps?

i cleared the vlave covers on my last car, and they looked great all summer before i sold it. i used vht high heat, scuffed the covers with 600gr and sprayed it. Then polished it just like a car. gl hopefully they turn out good for you

TCP Global does sell the HOK adhesion promoter in small amounts. I have a 4 oz bottle from them. Smallest clear is a qt I think

The clear has held up fine. The oldest covers being about 8 years ago. Just be sure to not put the AP-01 on too wet cause that can and will cause an issue. Just a light to medium coat is all you need. So the 4 ounce that superdave mentioned should be plenty.
