Default Air conditioner Shimming - AIR GAP -Components help

I just took the front plate off the air conditioning compressor to adjust the gap a bit because it rattles when AC off. I was wondering if I require shims to do this.

Also, is there supposed to be a retaining nut ? Mine had none, I just put the puller on and pulled it off. Then I was expecting to see some shim behind the plate but nothing.

Any help or diagram is appreciated.

Hit up the good ol pick-a-part in West Edmonton and of 3 cars I disassembled. 2/3 had a retaining (end) nut one didnt (like mine). I guess not big force to pull it off. 3/3 cars had no shims or anything once the front plate was off. I guess just set the gap and forget it. Nothing to hold it from getting pushed to far back once gap is set. WEIRD.

All cars had the similar AC unit but just V6 GM's
