to my knowledge they are identical.. see if the block you are getting has 4 bolt main caps... if youre putting any serious power down, a 4bolt main is the way to go...
oh, I dont think there is enough material to take it to that bore though... not certain but like ^ said... you got a long way to go...

Don't think you can bore a 305 out to a 350.
You don't want to put a 350 in a 81 to 83 truck that a 305 came out of. It's a pita, don't ask me how I know. Every bolt is 1/2 a hole off.

They bolt in exactly the same as well as any other SBC they made even the BBC bolts right in !!!!!

Sorry guys, wasn't drinking at the time, was later. :) All the accesory bolts were 1/2 hole off, acc brackets needed spacers behind them, the exhaust manifold bolts were 1/2 hole off. Now remember what vehicle I said it was in. 81-83 truck. for some reason GM engineers didn't want this swap possible with ease.

They have the same stroke but its not feasible to interchange the cranks because of the balance weight. Also 305 can take .030 over and its about done. In my opinion a 305 is a good motor, and I use them if they are already runners. But once they need rebuilt they go in the trash. Skip the 305 Get a 350 block and put your money there, 350s are dirt cheap again due to everyone stepping up to the lsx platform.
If you bore out a 305 to a 350 bore, the pistons will be floating in water. And then it wouldn't balance out.

I hate to say it but regaurdless of what year truck you have, ALL the sbc Chevys have same patterns as far as block goes. There should be NO difference in the exhaust manifold bolt positions as I've had plenty and swapped a ton. 305 and 350 CAN use the same crank shaft as once again I've done it. U only need to swap the crank balancer. 4 bolt blocks also aren't as strong as most ppl think. I've had just as many of those break or more than 2 bolt blocks. I've also run a .060 over 305 so idk where your getting that it can only go over .030. The 305's and 350's are almost identical aside bore size and balancer. All gen 1 and gen 2 blocks WILL interchange and fit in just the same. I've actually got a 400sbc I'm building with vortec 350 heads, intake, and all accessories and composite timing cover that retains crank sensor. Maybe your accessories didn't line up cause was for bbc as they are a little different. As far as mounting holes and bellhousing, even the bbc are same as sbc.

.060 over 305 with a 350 crank that sounds cool man but its a waste of time and money building a 305 when you can build a 350 for less and a 383 for a few hundred more.
My point is you cant bore a 305 out to a 350 anyway its like 1/4 inch.
