Hello, So I have an 01 SS A4 119k on the clock. I have headers, true duals, lid, and a 12 bolt with 4.10's

I blew a head gasket and am planning a cam install possibly. Is going with a large cam going to dramatically shorten my motors life?
How to high mileage LS1's handle small shots of nitrous? (maybe once a week I take my car out to play around town) considering a small shot.
How much HP can a stock 460lE handle safely?
is texas speed the cheapest/best place to order a package from?

Looking to find a cam that will be street able but pretty aggressive and will take well to say a 50-75 shot? TSP recommended the 233/239 at 112LSA.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hoping to order parts tonight or tomorrow

what will shorten the motors life is rpms. keep it around 6k and youll be doing ok....start going for 6500 then go ahead and add some head studs, and rod bolts. you can drop the oil pan for the rod bolts. as far as new gaskets, the GM cometic gaskets are among the best you can get.

I would up grade the transmission and torque converter first, I only had exhaust, lid, and a ported tb and blew my transmisson. I dont exactly drive my car easily but I would still want my trans to handle what ever my car had, it especally sucks when you spend all your cash on the motor only to blow the trans and have to save up to fix that.

Is that common? Seems crazy for the 460LE fail at such a low HP

Yes, it can definitely happen. These transmissions just really strike me as very hit or miss. Some people are able to beat on them all day and they won't break, some won't even hold up to stock/bolt-on power levels. A lot of it has to do with your driving style... but I agree with the other guy. I would personally play it on the safe side and prepare it before I took the plunge and put all the money into the motor.

I figure while the motor is apart I might as well. I'll just keep it on the streets and avoid breaking anything until I have the money to build the tranny or swap for a built 6speed.

If your gonna keep the trans stock for awhile I would put a external cooler on it their pretty cheap and easy to do. And I could be wrong but from what I've read that helps their durabilty a bit.

If you don't plan on a 3600-4000rpm converter and oil cooler for the transmission, you are about to make your car undrivable. No converter= no cam

Is this a car you drive on the street a lot? 4.10 is a lot of gear for an auto...

Don't forget the cost of a tune for the cam.

Whats up with 4.10's on a A-4 anyways????? 3.73 are what you need.

I am in the delayed entry program for the Air Force. So my intention is for the car to be a strip/weekend play car. The rear end came brand new from a member here on LS1 Tech who decided to go a different direction and I got it for a steal. As for the converter, I realize it is a little dramatic but this car will only be driven daily for the next 5-6 months before I leave for boot and I only drive it maybe 80 miles a week.

I ordered from texas speed today. Bought a 233/239 112LSA cam with dual valve springs and a yank SS 3600 converter. I plan to do a tranny cooler as well, thank you for that... I hope it holds up for a while!

OH!!! I am also ordering ARP rod bolts, head bolts, and crank bolts all from TSP.
I will be buying those, the gasket kit, a ported ls6 oil pump, and a timing chain all next paycheck.
