Default ls build in a 3rd gen

i am build a turbo ls 5.3 and putting it in a 86 camaro but i am caught up on the trans and gear for this should i run the 4l80e or the 4l60e and should i run 4:10 or the 3:73 this will be a street/strip car

Might have to go to a higher gear than a 3:73 for a street turbo so the turbo will have better spool times, You dont want a low gear for a turbo car. More people can/will chime in with better advice.

Personally, since you're talking about a turbocharger, I'd be leaning toward the 4L80E (not sure if you'd run into any fitment issues though). It's definitely possible to build a stout 4L60E, but I'd think that if they were both built identically, the beefier trans would give you a bit more margin for error.

That's just my $.02 though...

this is just what i was planning for my 85 in a couple years when im done with the 98z28. where in Louisiana are you i live in lake charles area?

Ya I was lucky my buddy just gave me the motor he said he will never use it I am in Shreveport not 3rd gens around here with the ls swap

You'll want the '80E with boost. Stock it will handle extensive abuse

Worry about gears when fine tuning the completed project

Listen to Pocket cause he knows his stuff. Also check out thirdgen.org to see what is needed for the 80 swap. They have a lot of info over there for us. Good luck with your build bro.
