Carbureted LSX forum - Mounting Holley pumps

Ok peeps show/explain how you mounted your Holley pumps. What's the best way to keep the noise/vibrations to a minimum?

Mine is super loud too. The exhaust does drown it out though.

Mount it FAR from the driver's seat?
Mount it with a rubber isolator pad?
Mount it inside something partially enclosed?

It helps to place a rubber isolator between the mounting bracket and the frame of the vehicle. But, holley pumps are just plain LOUD. Eric L

I've tried rubber isolators, even bolting the pump to one end of a piece of rubber then bolting the other end of the rubber to a suspension mount. Hanging the pump like that helped but with zero sound deadener in my car it is still pretty loud. I think some of the noise comes through the fuel lines and even the return style regulator itself. I have a 140 gph pump and too large of a pump seems to make the noise problem worse. I even tried reducing the voltage to the pump at idle cause I heard some high end cars do that. I couldn't quite get that to work without blowing fuses.

My next project is to dynamat the car itself (I took out all the stock tar when I did the motor swap). When I do that I think I will wrap part of the pump in dynamat.

That's a big thorn in my side, is worrying about how loud it will be once I get it running (soon). I should have ponied up the $$ and put in an in-tank pump. I'll probably end up tearing this one out and doing just that

I have a 78 Pontiac and the fuel feed is on the driver side, hence the location of the pump. I'm making a bracket for the return regulator to sit just above the oil pressure sender behind the carb.

Holleys are just plain LOUD. I have a magna fuel now, and its also LOUD. Even the regulator is loud, lol. I have heard that the Edelbrock is quieter, but ive also heard of longevity issues with the edelbrock pump. Eric L

I mount mine below the bottom of the fuel tank, so it is just pushing. Otherwise, my noisy exhaust makes it so I cannot hear it, my aeromotive is allot smoother running over the holly unused to run, but as a hotrod I just take noise like that as part of the game.

the billet holley pumps are much quieter, otherwise only in tank ones are "quiet"


my magnafuel pro star 500 definitely lets you know its there, but then again it could empty my gas tank in a minute, so its the price you pay

I am running the same Magnafuel 300 that I ran with my big block, and its LOUD, lol. Ive been trying to think of a way to quiet it, but like Zone said, its part of the price you pay. Eric L

My Aeromotive A1000 is pretty damn loud too. Especially considering it's submerged in fuel inside the fuel cell, which is inside the closed trunk. In this video you can hear the pump come on for a few seconds before I start the car.

If you don't want a loud pump, then buy the Edelbrock Quiet Flow. I have one on my 84 and it's real quiet but has plenty of supply.

Want to hear a loud one, check this out. When I first put the 418 in my 84, I had a Mallory Comp 250. We parted company after 20 minutes of run time. The background noise in this video is a fan, then you can hear the fuel pump for a couple of seconds before the motor starts. You can even hear it over the open headers.
