ARH 1 7/8" install
I plan to install a set of ARH 1 7/8 on my 6 speed car this weekend, and wanted to know if there are any special methods for putting these in. I've installed 3 sets of headers before, including the ones on my automatic car, but they were all 1 3/4 and I had the usage of a lift to do so. This time I am going to try to do this on jack stands. How high will I need to get the car in the air to put these on? When I put my 1 3/4" headers on my automatic car, I didn't have to remove the starter, oil filter, drain plug or the boss above the oil filter. I didn't have to loosen the steering linkage either. They just went right into place. I've read numerous threads about the great fit and finish of these headers but none really went into detail about the install process.

Get the car as high as you can for the passenger side header. I used a jack with 3 2x4's stacked. Let's just say it felt really unsafe, but got the job done. On my 1 7/8 headers I had to take out the through bolt on the motor mount for the driver side and remove the oil boss above the filter. It wasn't bad. I should also mention I didn't use arh's, but hear nothing but good things on fitment and performance so you will probably get even better luck

I disconnected the steering shaft to make easier and oil filter. The passenger side went in easy. I like ARHs over any others. The give a little more ground clearance and are thicker. So they do absorb more valvetrain noise.

Thanks for the info everyone.
I do not plan on changing motor mounts at the time of my install. Is any grinding necessary on the k member for header tube clearance? I had to do this with my jet hots. Also, do I need to consider purchasing a mufflex y pipe brace to keep the y-pipe from hitting the floor pan? I didn't need one for my automatic car but it has a custom fabbed Y. I know the ARH y is one of the best fitting y-pipes out there. Anybody got any pics of the clearance when installed on their car? I don't want to change motor mounts because I drive the car everyday and I've heard some issues with some people having vibrations transmitted through the steering column and into the wheel with poly motor mounts.

If it helps at all I daily drive with poly motor mounts and tranny mounts, the motor i barely felt at all, but I havent been terribly impressed with the transmission mount though.

I will just say this, with my stock rubber motor mounts one of my primaries was resting on the driver side motor mount pedestal and another primary would rub the k-frame when it sat at idle. If I were you I would at least put in some new factory rubber mounts. Personally I run solid motor mounts and a poly trans mount, but my car is mainly for track and weekend cruises

Got these installed this weekend. Headers went in very easy. Didn't have to remove the oil filter or steering linkage. Plenty of clearance at the k-member without any grinding too. Hardest thing was getting the y-pipe on. That took about an hour to figure out. Went ahead and upgraded to MSD wires at the time of the install. The bendable boots are great, they allow you to get ample clearance. I got everything buttoned up, changed my oil and noticed a constant drip from the water pump. Ordered one of those with a new t-stat got it installed today. Only thing left is a tune. From what I can tell, the slp dual dual exhaust isn't that much louder with the headers. Its deeper for sure. I'll really be able to tell when I drive it after I get it tuned.
I'm going to have to clean it up under the hood next weekend. Got pretty dirty under there during the swap.
