I am planning on selling my 94 formula. A couple of years ago, I had to have some engine work done due to a blown head gasket that resulted in a cracked block as well, and so a new engine being placed in. Now that I am about to sell it, I'm not sure if the engine that is in the car is an LT1. I know its a 5.7. How can I tell if it is the LT1 engine? A friend suggested to look at the serial number on the block and look it up. Does anyone know if this will work, and where the serial number might be on the block?

You can tell just by looking at the intake manifold. Unless it was modified to use an old style distributor or your no longer running fuel injection.

Unfortunately no I am not kidding. Believe me I wish I was. I'm still new to the mechanic world, so forgive me if I have offended you with my ignorant ways.

Just look on the front of the engine. If there's no belt going to the water pump then yes you have an LT1.
Take it to a shop and ask them how much to change the spark plugs. If they tell you something off the wall, then yes you own an LT1.

Thanks guys. My dad was the one that wasn't sure if it was a regular 5.7 or LT1. I wasn't sure there was a difference. This confirms my guess. He's selling it down in Texas while I'm up in New Jersey.

LT1's have the distributor up front under the water pump.
