Default TSP 228R w/ Stage 2.5 LS6 Heads

Hey guys, I would like to share my build and progress with you all. Like the title says im installing the 228/228 .588/.588 on a 112 LSA with the stage 2.5 LS6heads from Texas Speed milled .030 for approx 11 to 1 compression with the stock GM MLS headgasket . Heres a list of the parts im installing. My car has 124k and the motor is leaking at almost every gasket so thats why there are alot of replacements and other upgrades for reliability.

Basic gasket kit from TSP
Rear main seal
Oil pan gasket
LS2 Timing chain Rollmaster
LS7 lifters
LS2 lifter trays
FAST 36lb Injectors
TSP ported LS6 oil pump
Katech rod bolts

The process overall has been ok, very time consuming and there is ALOT of things to do! But I have been going slow and here are a few pictures of everything so far. Ill update as progress is made!

UPDATE!! Idle clipe on post 58

Awesome.

It's going to be well worth all the time and work when you fire it up for the first time!

Exciting! Can't wait to do mine. May I ask the reasons behind your cam choice? I'm up on the fence of the V3 or the 228R

Probably a daily driver or he doesn't want to replace springs every 20k miles. Although the V3 can be pretty tame when tuned properly. Mine drives very well, but If I could do it again I would have gone much bigger.

Since you have the engine out why not Re-ring it also? Light hone on the cyl. walls and have a fresh engine.

Well I was in the same boat, and after going back before between these two cams I decided more low end torque and better driving manners out weighed the more peak hp and more of a chopy idle. From what I have read and what people say theres not a lot of difference between them, but what it came down to this is a street car and more low end torquer coming in sooner= alot more fun on the street. Plus I dont want to rev my engine to 6.5-6.7k to get the full power. I want this LS1 to last a long time. Just something to consider. So its basically more low end, or more peak hp?

I was wondering about that, does the 228R produce more lowend torque over the Torquer Cam?

This cars not my DD. Just my play toy for when its nice out. One thing I didnt want was any surging whatsoever. So I decided the 228r to be more suitable. lol I think that would embarassing as hell, taking a girl out on a date and your car starts bucking like a damn bull or it stalls completley.

If your tuner is good you will have no surging 95% of the time. Mine did surge and I brought it back, now it drives almost like stock. Just make sure they street tune it. I have to say I like the V3....it pulls hard after 4500rpms. I get what your saying about bucking though, my wife drove in it before I brought it back for a retune and she hated it.

This is pretty much my setup, same cam but I have Trickflow heads. I love mine runs strong, 228 is a great cam for a street car but as always I can see a bigger cam in the future.

Not sure how that could be possible when it has the name Torquer Cam.

Over the last week, we installed new connecting rod bearings and katech rod bolts, the ls2 timing set and have the heads torqued down. Making progress but were taking our time to not jack anything up! WE have been trying to figure out the preload but were having a few problems. First your suppose to find the base circle, which at first we didnt know that so our readings were always varying and off. After doing more research we found out you had to be on the base circle and go for a preload from .050-.100. We ended up around .085. More work to come this weekend, and some pictures

from what I have learned from the smartest people on this forum, you have to resize your connecting rods if you remove the rod cap.in most cases people just upgrade the rod bolts 1 bolt at a time on each rod.there is a great thread about rod bolts and rod resizing and rod bearing distortion.

I'm interested in re-ringing my engine with a fresh hone and bearings along with installing this kit after deployment. You'll have to let us know how you like it.
