Newbie need help are info on my 6.0
Hello my names Kevin very new to the whole fuel injected engines don't know to much an wanting to learn an get all the info needed.
I currently purchased a 6.0 it has on the block 12551364d 6.0l. I was doing some research on the numbers an found out that it's a lq9 with a 4.0 bore. I'm doing a engine swap on my 86' c10 Im undecided if I want to put cam an 243 heads on it with a ls6 intake. I read being its a 4.0 bore you wouldn't be able to bore it no more than 10 over giving it a 4.40 bore making the walls pretty thin an having problems getting the head gaskets to seal correctly. If anyone know what would be the best thing for this engine to do to it let me know. I'm leaning more towards just stock. Bc I don't know to much about these engines.

Unless the block has been completely trashed there shouldn't be any reason to bore it more than .030" over. You have so many options with your motor, it just all depends on how much power you want and how much money you want to spend.
I'm running an 03 iron block bored to 4.030" and a 4" crank to get a 408 (very common build now) and love it.

I'm just going off what I have all read. It's a lq9 I ran the numbers on the block an I have a 4l65e also ran the numbers on the trans. My plan is not to bore it. There was a guy talking about boring 30 over to make it a ls6. I don't know how true that is but this is what I got planned to do with the engine if not I'm just going to rock it stock.
243 heads
Ls1/2 intake depending on the different style ports on the engine I'm guessing will depend on the intake I go with.
Z06 cam
Tuned, programmed
I have a new ls1 style water pump all new gaskets an seals I will be ordering a vette low profile oil pan being my trucks body dropped on the rockers. I'm changing the seals in the transmission as well.
Should I change the pistons are leave the factory ones in from what I read online it has the flat top pistons but won't know till I take the heads off.
Thank y'all for any info I'm here to learn what I can an do everything the right way an what's needed to be done.

Leave the pistons in there if it's an lq9.
Boring it .030 won't make it into an ls6, it'll be 370 ci then. Maybe your buddy meant by adding 243 heads (ls6 heads minus the hollow valves) and an ls6 cam will make it sort of an ls6....although it's an iron block.
Depending on what vehicle it's going into now and what computer you're using will help on what intake to use. If it's already setup for cable TB, then use an ls6 intake with a 3 bolt TB. If it's setup for drive by wire, then get the ls2 intake and a stock dbw TB.
also, throw a different cam in there besides an ls6. There's plenty of small cams out there that blow the ls6 cam's performance away while still keeping stock like idle/drive ability

Black00 yes I def want to stay within the stock drive ability. It's a tbc I made sure it was bc I didn't want to fool with the sensors. This engines going in my body dropped 86 c10. I'm def not going to bore the engine I think it'll be plenty engine for my truck just throwing a cam, heads ,intake an tune. What would you recommend for a good cam? I'm not trying to go to the drag strip it's a fully custom truck I want it dependable bc I daily the truck. I want it to sound good an make it come alive some what. I appreciate the help to man. I will be going with a Nelson persormance stand alone harness. Trans is a 4l65e.
