So I pulled my trans to rebuild it and I had everything put back together. I went to plug my battery in and my starter started cranking the motor. my wires are in the right spots and my ground is connected. I played with my ignition switch for a little bit. Any other suggestions?

Check again. Sounds like your main battery wire and ignition wire on the starter are touching. If you can't visibly see it, trace it back through the harness. It could also be a bad starter solenoid.

This. Also, check again to be sure you didn't accidentally hook your battery cable to the "M" terminal of the starter. Putting power directly to that terminal will bypass everything else and just send power to the starter motor.
