Drag Racing Tech - Charging issue after battery relocate

I did a battery relocate to the spare tire compartment. I took the factory connections and hooked them up to a distribution block with a 1G going back to the battery. I ran a 2G from the alternator to the battery. I have a 1G ground at the battery. I also did a 25% underdrive harmonic balancer and a 145A alternator. It holds just above what looks to be 12V (I'm just going off my dash). Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

See if it shows charging if you raise the RPM's up some.... the under-drive pully may be turning the alternator too slow.

I'll take it for a drive tomorrow and pay attention to that. I was thinking the underdrive pulley may have something to do with it, so I bought the bigger alternator thinking it would make up for it. Is my thought process completely off track?

Sort of, but not that bad:) Just drive it and see where the voltage goes. Did you put a disconnect switch in the positive lead? Is this a car that will go to the track?

It will go to the track but I do not have the disconnect wired yet. Right now I'm trying to get it ready for a 1k mile drive from OK to MI.

Higher powered/amp alts usually put out less power at idle then stockers but more power as the rpms go up. I also would not be trusting the stock gauge for an accurate V measurement. Get a digital multimeter and tell us your exact voltage during a cold crank up and a warm idle.

Ok thanks

Got a multimeter and tested at the battery. ~14.4 at start and ~14.1 at idle. Driving at 2k rpms it's steady at 14.2 and my stock gauge is showing just under 13. So I guess the gauge is just off a bit. Thanks for the help
