Due to the limitation on boring your bout at your max due to limitation on crank stroke. That's why most go to a LS2 due to getting a 4" bore. Also head options open up. Check with builders and you may get some more but at best you get a 0.010" over bore on newer ls1 blocks.

I think the biggest stroke you can go in a stock deck ls1 is a 4.100 for 392 cubes.

You can install a 4.125" stroke rotating assembly (Lunati) into a LS1 that makes 395 CID. I would not recommend it though.

It is possible (though not recommended) to open a LS1 to 4.00 bore. (Late model ls1 preferred for thicker sleeves)

Read above again. It has been done. Running LS2 rods/pistons stock crank. Granted it takes guts to play with those margins but it is doable (on late model LS1s)

Is a 383 really going to make much more power over a 347?

Reason why I ask is because some people arent even breaking 500rwhp with a 383, yet some guys are getting 480 out of stock shortblock engine.

If you take a set of TEA/TFS 215's, a 236/242 615/615 on a 111, fast 90/90 people are reporting 470-490rwhp. How would that setup perform with a few more cubes?
